For future reference a piece of leather or rubber between your pliers and the item you are wrenching on works great at preventing it from getting "chewed" ;)
Yeah I learned that trick probably 60 years ago,
This was way to tight for that, could only get in there at an angle and the sharp corners of the new channel locks would have cut right thru any rubber or leather and I had a new one coming anyway.
