40-60-80 or 50-70-90?

Just wondering what ya'll prefer in the woods? I like a 40cc saw for limbing and trimming, 60cc for all around wood cutting (small firewood, tops, etc.)and a nice 5-cube for falling and bucking.

50, 71, 79, 92 are my favorite group to carry with my two hands....lol

I like the 346-5100 size for limbing

I like the 440/372 size for most of the general use work (20" bar)

I like the 7900 for most of the felling (24")

I use the 660 with a 28"-36" for the stump cuts and/or overly big trees.

these are my preferences for hardwoods.

If I had to pick two it would be the 45-50 cc (5100) and a 70-80 cc (7900).

one saw would be a light 70cc (440)

I tend to run a little lighter than most, but I cut in the south. The 346XP is my saw of choice and I only bring out the 359 for large trees and trunks. I use a 6401 with a bow bar to buck it up once it is on the ground and limbed. That is the ticket.

On the ground I need no saw smaller then a 372. If its big, then the 395. In the air, the 200T.

I'm on the 50,70,120 plan right now but I Stihl have plans for the 90cc gap filler when my uncle Sam gives me back my money.

Of course I've got the obligatory 60cc saw, and I've got both ends of the 70cc class covered too..... just in case.

So I guess you could say I'm on the 50cc, 60cc, small 70cc, large 70cc, 120cc plan... with back-up's of course.

I'll probably quit when I get the 90cc and 130+cc categories covered...... yeah right.

rule of thumb:


346xp if your feet are off the ground
372xp if your feet are on the ground
395xp if you are on your knees

Totally agree with this. In size anyway. I don't have the smaller Husky line-up, but I use my 009 in a bucket or in a tree, the 036 for limbing, and the 288 on the ground...

I'm at 57-88...just to be different.God I love my 390XP!It's smoother than most small saws.

Right now I am on the 50-60-90 plan. My 920 needs to be replaced with a modern 80cc saw like a 7900. Plus my 60cc saw is darn near 5hp, which is more like a 70cc saw, lol.

Anyways eventually I think I will be on a 50-60-70-80 plan, with one of the 60-70 saws staying home a lot

an 046 is my small saw....and that gets taken out for firewood or when im just wanting to switch things up a tad in the woods. but i'm usually running a 92cc(660) and that is felling & limbing duties.

btw the 290 in my sig is my pop's saw...i just maintain it for him(i sure as h*ll wouldn't buy one)
