Universities often have pretty old trees on their grounds. Here are pix of an elm that slowly died and had to come down. BTW - one of the trees on this campus was here when it was founded - 1793 - and is still doing fine.

I asked the tree crew if they ever milled any of the wood. Sometimes, not often, was the answer. They looked carefully at this elm to see if there was any valuable burl. Nope. So they cut up pieces and gave them to people who'd asked for souvenirs, since this was a well-known tree. I was astonished to see two book matched elm boards, 10ft long, highly figured, selling for $1,600 on ebay. Since when is elm more expensive than walnut.

Anyway, I thought the groups might like to see pix of this big elm.
