Chainsaw file choices

I've been using Pferd round files for years, I like them. A few months ago I needed a raker file and ordered "Archer 6" Chainsaw Flat Files 12-Pack" from Amazon. I'm impressed, they are more aggressive than the Orgeon raker files I have been using.

Just picked up two dozen NOS Sandvik 13/64 files. Long story short, I’m impressed. Don’t make ‘em like they use to.

Happy to hear you got them. Now you see what I’m talking about, you can definitely feel how they “grab” differently than the files you get these days. I think you’ll be impressed once you use them.

• Steel alloy and heat treatment define the hardness, thus longetivity of the file.

• Height of teeth defines aggressiveness ,thus the ability to remove material.The higher the teeth ,the more material removed per pass.

• Pattern of teeth defines edge smoothness.Some patterns leave a smooth razor-like edge ,others leave a kinda rough ,serrated one.

The hardness of chain cutters ,
the type of wood to be cut ( hardwood vs softwood ,live or dry ,clean or dirty ,etc ),the frequency of sharpenings /touching ups and the individual way of filling ( i.e. the force applied ) should be taken into account ,in order to choose the most appropriate file .
