Engine for splitter

We're in the process of building a new log splitter, and need an engine to power it. We're open to just about anything from 15-35hp gas or (preferably) diesel. If anyone has any that run well for a decent price, please reply.
 
See if you can find an old diesel Volkswagen. Stay away from the 1.5, lots of problems. Go to a 1.6 with or without turbo (68 or 52 horse at high rpm). Last forever and cheap on fuel.
