In the atv/dirt bike world it takes double the cc's of a 4 stroke to compete with the 2 strokes. 4 strokes also cost ALOT more to rebuild then 2 strokes. Its amazing how many people buy a rmz, yzf, kxf, crf with the false impression that since its a 4 stroke, they will run for ever with little care for the motor. Then end up grenading the motor and finding out its gonna cost them $1000 to $1500+ just to get it running again. There are LOTS of riders that are selling there thumpers to go back to 2 smokers. There just WAYYYY too expensive to keep running.
Another thing that is slowely comming into the dirt bike scene is battery electric power. KTM already has a prototype. I forsee some day in the future we will also see 4 stroke saws and crazy battery powered saw. Heck who knows we might be using lasers to cut down trees before too long.
