Ok, now tomarrow i will be the proud owner of my second saw which will be either an ms 290 farm boss...or an ms 310...now only one question...the 310 with 18'' bar is 40$ more than the farm boss with 18" bar...310 has 2.5 cc's more and they weigh 13lbs each....I think I will go with the farm boss or am I missing something for 40$ more in the 310??? I usually cut apx 5 full cord per yr. Any help? confused: opcorn:

I'd go with the 310 unless all I was cutting was under about 5 inches. $40 doesn't sound like that much for even a small power gain and you probably can recover most of the $40 if you were to resell it later.

drill the muffler and retune and you have close to the power of the 361/390.

Get what YOU want, personally I would go with the 310 for use with a 20 or maybe later a 25" bar. For your use either saw will be great and last a long time. Go get it and have fun!

The Dolmar 5100S sounds like a much better deal than the 290 anyway....

I don't know how well the 5100 can pull a 20" but I know the 290/310 can fine. If he has a Dolmar dealer near, the 5100 should be considered. Looks like a soon to be happy 290/310 owner.

Id go with the 290. The 310 is a gas hog and doesnt have all that much more power than the 290.
My father has a 310 and I swear, that thing will burn though a tank of gas every 20 minutes.
The saw has great power, but it gets annoying after a while having to fill it back up all the time.

No matter what saw you get out of that line-up just remember to drill, baby, drill when it comes to opening up the exhaust port.

I had a 310 and it responded very well to a muffler mod.
