I've read books that mention how much water(in gallons) a tree received in a year.
Just so I can have a reference how many gallons of water does a tree need a year for a tree with little water needs(drought tolerant), tree with moderate water needs, and a tree with heavy water needs.

I just want a reference to go by, I was told 8 gallons a year is a tree with moderate water needs. Not sure if this is true, it seems too low . I just want a reference to go by so when I read a certain type of tree gets X gallons a year I can make sense of it.

Low water needs= ? Gallons
Moderate water needs=? Gallons
High water needs= ? Gallons

Thank you

Completely depends on the size of the tree. A "high water need" tree that is 30" in diameter and has a huge canopy will use over 100 gallons per day on hot breezy days.

I can't imagine anything (maybe some kind of Yucca as a seedling???) surviving on 8 gallons per year.
