I have a 1982 "brock" wood furnace. I'm going through about two wheel barrel loads of wood a day. All oak wood 18" long but split to 6"X6" and smaller. Should I not split if it will fit through the door?? 12" rounds will fit. The house has been in the 80's, more than warm enough.

If I dont add wood every six hours it will be out in eight.

Burning wood is like having a newborn. They both need constant feeding.I don't think your burn times are out of line.Manufacturers have been stretching their claims for years regarding burn times.Choke it down too far and your asking for creosote problems.By all means add the largest pieces you can, but I wouldn't expect huge gains in burn times.

How much how fast is but many factors. Wood species, outside air temp, type and kind of stove, chimney draft, and on and on. Sounds to me like you are doing quite well. To keep my stove going strong in cold weather I'm feeding it often and sometimes twice a night
