i got a chance to run a 670 Champ saw.

That, is a very nice unit. Really rips.

In my reading on them trying to learn more. I guess they used 3 different topends on 670.

Mahle K&S Gil2

Info from jred guy =
Jhmn = The mahle is probably the most generic of the bunch. It has a combustion chamber like the 268 and average sized ports.

The KS has a combustion chamber like the mahle but had larger lower transfers and a step on the bottom of the exhaust port.

The gilardoni has a smaller combustion chamber large lower transfers and the step in the exhaust port as well.

Gilardoni, is definitely the hottest running of the 3 in stock form.

Dye it black...

I was talking with the folks on my chainsaw repair group about doing just that with the RIT dye.

But a member there saved me. He knew where a old jred dealer was and stopped in for a pick. He found the remaining pieces for the puzzle to make this champ right.

Now if USPS dont loose it like they been known to do lately.

There are some vids on YouTube that show buffing out old plastics.....one is on a motocross bike that's badly faded. Anyway, that's just surface oxidation you're seeing. The original color is still underneath.

It's just something I have to make time for and try out.

ahh, the fun of working on 6xx saws...................

After that great info you shared with me. I saved by the way.
Just could not stand that other jred black brake handle so close to top handle.
So was going to use a aftermarket 272 cover cut to use. If I keep it.

Was goofing around today and cutting a mag cover to test fit.
Then I was looking at the black handles on some parts saw and thought hmmmm. Wonder if that would fit with that forward angle.
I just don’t like how close the jred handle is.
So was just looking at options if I keep it as a user.
I think I found a user handle I like over the to close jred one.

Much better.

Nice with the metal cover too. A plus right there.

Seems I can sell just the band. Least I never tried to pull that apart being it looks like a rivet had deal. You can buy whole set.

When it was offered new.

I think it needs a better plastic cover to boot.

Bet I got a whole black or red one still together still. I will leave it all together with the extra parts needed and you just have to bolt on.

Looks like this 2083 parts saw one was black.

Then no need to fight that spring yourself.
