Why not just buy leaded gas? I find it works quite well.

AVgas or leaded racing gas. If you really want to have leaded fuel, you can purchase tetraethyl lead through scientific supply houses.

Yup, you are correct. The tetraethyl lead served two purposes: it raised the "octane rating" by reducing "knock" or precombustion (detonation), and it served as a lubricant as you correctly pointed out. It was primarily for the valve seats until GM came out with the Stellite pressed in valve seats.

AVgas will be less expensive that racing gas, and you can cut the aviation fuel with unleaded regular and still have roughly a 96 octane rating gas mixing 50:50. Plus you'll get a little leaded action. The "LL" after 100LL means "Low Lead". Now if you have several airports around, call around and ask if they have any 115/130. That is the good stuff.:)

Lead was a cushion

That is why when the unleaded only days arrived.. The old small block chevies the valve seats would get beat out.. Then they would have to put a hardened seat in and then they were good to go again.

Be very careful with the straight bulk tetra......it is super deadly as a few I knew growing up found out...they are long since gone now
It does smell REALLY cool but........

And it is a nightmare for 2 strokes
