Log Splitter Relief Valve spits out oil

5 hp log splitter spits out a small amount of oil on every stroke. Should I adjust it?

On most log splitters the relief is built into the control valve and excess fluid is rerouted to the return line. No visible leakage of fluid will be seen.

If the relief valve is a add on device the relief port should be piped back to the tank.

Mine also spits oil, but out a cover on the end of the valve (I started a thread on it with pictures).
