Very true. many trailer companies in the midwest. prices are much cheaper. In the northeast everthing costs more. If the 4000lb+ payload works for you, go for it. It looks to be in good shape & is worth the $1k, in my opinion. You can always upgrade later if you find another deal.

Hmmmmmmm so a chap may load 100 heavy trailers on a 53' wedge and make a fair dollar there ehhhhhhhhhh? I don't get it more people there surely some can weld youz guyz can't all be wall steeeter's or mob bozzes right?:monkey:

True, we do have capable people here in the Northeast but, we seem to always pay more for stuff. When I was shopping for a trailer, I could buy new from the Midwest or used here in the Northeast, for roughly the same $. Actually, used here was frequently more.

Now what a southern bo see's is an opportunity lol.:monkey:

MGA,
Let me throw another idea out there, if it not too late. Since the trailer is a little lighter than you want, yet still a decent trailer....what if you went there and simply said you were lookin for something a little beefier, but will offer him $800. If he accepts, you got a good deal, if he doesnt, keep lookin.
If trailers are hard to come by for that price by you - start here. Get this 16' footer but keep your eyes open for another one (they're out there) and when you find one, sell this one. You'll be able to get your $800 back.
Just my .02

In his Craigslist link there was a car hauler for 695 I would buy it and screw treated lumber down and have a heavier trailer for 800.00<a href="http://www.sweetim.com/s.asp?im=gen&lpver=3&ref=11" target="_blank"><img src="http://content.sweetim.com/sim/cpie/emoticons/000203F2.gif" border="0" title="Click to get more." ></a>

i'll go look at it and see what condition it's in. not sure if it has brakes or not, or if they work. i'll need a gate as well. i can see a grand going into it.

i looked all across NYS and the ones i find, even used, are more that what i think they're worth. some are really banged up and they still want top buck for them.

lemme tell ya, if i lived closer to kansas, i'd run down and scarf that trailer up today. unfortunately, it's not worth the drive for me.

yea, stuff like this is expensive up here....all the toys are.

I actually considered driving out to pick up a stack of 3 or 4 from Indiana, then selling them & keeping 1. In the end, I decided it wasn't worth the time. I found mine 3 hours away for a price I could live with.
The one you've found would be a reasonable value for the $ and you can upgrade if need be, to a higher GVW trailer when the opportunity is there. I'll bet you'd get almost all, if not all of your $ back.
Here's mine:

hauling good size loads of wood will quickly overload 2x 3500lb axles.

tires and trailer brakes are what you should be worried about.
10ply E rated tires with electric brakes on both axles

look for axles with 8 lug 16in rims ... 2.35 85R 16, 3/4 ton truck tires are the ticket.

2 5/16 hitch or pindel hitch up front .... look for an integral frame mounted heavy duty jack. when you've got 20k lb+ loaded on your trailer... jack has to be rated to match load.

the same for frame of trailer... it's got to be matched to rated load.
to pull it all ... a Cummins Turbo Diesel... arrrrrgggg.....gets expensive quick!

Your tranny in that ford must have been on the way out prior. That V10 ( i got 99 f350 v10/411 rear, 4x4) is only slightly rated behind the last 2 diesel mistakes that ford has out. When I go to fight snow I leave with a pallet of salt 1k lbs plow up front 500 lbs of salter and bumper on back plus the 10kgvw ( trailer weights 2300) trailer and the 5k skid steer , no problem.

i'm gonna buy it.

i figure if it ends up being too light for my needs, i can always get my money back easily. it's really in decent shape.

thanks for the replies, people. they were helpful.

I can buy a new 16ft 7k trailer with a wrap tongue brake on one axle and 2 5/16 bull dog jack for a little over 1k here. I think they are $1080. If you don't buy that one let me know. I might be going to NH in a month or so and I could bring a few up that way. If I go to NH I will be towing a empty 24ft Tandem Dual pintle hitch trailer.

You can have the one in my f-550. I delivered 4 cords of wood with it yesterday. It was a decent haul with a lot of steep hills. When I filled up today I averaged 8.3mpg. That is bad! And I didn't run the piss out of it. It was never to the floor.
