Hey everyone. I am looking into getting a new saw, either the 362 or 400. I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for which one to get. i will be using a 20" bar and bucking up wood with it for the most part. I know the weight is 12.4 to 12.8lbs in the 400 so not much difference there. I was also wondering if anyone knows the dimensions of each saw. Is the 400 any longer than the 362 when just looking at the powerhead or are they almost indential?

The 400 should cut faster!

I realise it's not exactly what you asked for but last year I got a 400 and here it is next to the 262. Obviously you're enquiring about a 362 but it might help?! The gist is the 400 is so close in size and weight to the 362 you basically get a 70cc saw the size of a 60. It was only about £100 more than a 362 if I remember, but it was a no brainer for me!

A 20 on my 400 seems just right.
I didn't buy one yet. Most of the saws have been shelved this year. Plenty at my local dealerships. 400s in stock.

The balance is the same as a 361 or 2 imho. I'll get around to seeking some stuff and updating this winter.

That new 661 carb saw is still listed here. I passed. Kick myself later.

Thanks! This might actually be a better comparison. if the 362 and 400 are so close it's good to see the difference between the 50cc saw.

Only advantage of 362 over the 400 right now is that the 362 is on sale in Canada at the moment. So a bit of price difference at moment Between the 2
but if money is not an issue, get the 400 Which comes standard with lightweight bar. Dealer may knock a few bucks off price if you sub reg stihl laminated bar instead, which makes it a little closer to 362 for price.

Sounds like the 400 is the same size and weight but has more power. I'll just go with that one. don't want to regret it later.
I knew you’d see things our way lol. Honestly though, going with the 400 is the more logical decision. Same size and weight as the 362 and more power. Just makes sense.

Whenever you get it make sure to check the pricing on different size bars when you buy the saw, If you are interested in larger bars than just a 20. You can get a larger bar for like $10.00 each size up. I have a 362 now and plan on going to the 400 next.

I have a 400 and have run 362s in the past. There is no comparison, the 400 is a much better saw. I think Stihl lies with the weight difference between the 2, just to create some separation, but they feel exactly the same when you pick them up. Externally, they look the same.

My only knock against the 400 is the low-output oiler, but that's a non factor with a 20" bar and is easily remedied.
