Mud season is coming

No sap running in the maples yet. Mud season is on hold here for now. Crust on the snow won't hold weight, and breaking through makes for tough going in the woods.

That, and it's below zero - STILL!

This time last year the sap folks were going like crazy. With 20 degree below normal temps not so much this year.

Snowshoes catch on the top crust just enough to send you flying. Need to stomp the snow around every tree just to have a safe escape route. One thing though, the trees are so frozen they snap off, in the cut, like a popsicle.
