As often as I do this, it's surprising that I haven't been called on it earlier...

It's an obsession. Just can't help it.

And she caught me sure enough...

Just starin' from the kitchen at the wood stacks in the dooryard for this winter and the piles that'll be stacked for 2009-10: "Why are you gazing off into the distance like that?"

I was a teeny bit embarrassed...

My name is woodbooga, and I'm a dendroholic.

But you know... I'll do it again.;)

I've asked my wife to go look at the woodpile with me. I can't see very much of it from the house because most of it is behind the barn. She laughs and says that she's already seen it. She does go with me once in awhile out of pity I guess. If I ever wind up going to a WA meeting I'm going to blame her for being an enabler.

Hi, my name is Danny and I'm a woodaholic.

My girlfriend asks where I have been and I tell her and she just looks at me and says, "theres something wrong with you... and don't even think you are going to ignore me all night by going on that damn site!"
And I go on here and re-read all the posts while sipping a manhatten. You guys are a saving grace.

By the way, who has that free wood I have been telling her about?

at least im not the only one with that obsession. When im not cutting firewood im cleaning my chainsaw sharpening a chain ect... I dont know why I have that in me being the hard work that it takes. I guess such a feeling of accomplishment. Today I cut split and stacke 1/2 dozen apple trees Im saving them for my smoker not my outdoor furnace. Ive allready walked outside to smell them twice. my wife gets angry cause i hang my chaps in the boot room but i love that smell

...and I'm sure that you've found some creative uses for bar oil too!:)

Come to think of it, a chainsaw is a pretty tangible extension of a guy's man parts.

Nah ! I'm going to go with it being a "Zen moment". When you find true tranquiliity as the cutters sink into a log. Watching the chips fly from the back of the saw as the chain bites quickly, yet smoothly through the fallen tree. I use the wood for heat and I know that we are going to be warm one more winter. I know the tree's I cut will serve a purpose in their death as much as they did during their life. Their brush still provides cover for wildlife. The trunk and limbs provide heat for my home and their mulch and ashes help enrich the soil for my garden.

I like tearing stuff up. Saws are good for this.
