My brother has the 026,361 two saw set-up just because I sold him the 026 for $100.00 which was a deal.I would go with the 7900 Dolmar just because of the 13.6lbs. and 6.3hp or the Husqvarna 372 13.4lbs and 5.2hp. I keep thinking the weight to horse power ratio maybe because I am starting to get up in the years, but I will still out cut any of you:hmm3grin2orange:

Ever consider a stihl MS 390? I have a 25" bar on mine and it works great for me. It was $520 after taxes. Now the 361 guys can chime in and tell you what a junker the 390 is.

Thats what my brother paid for his MS361 with 16" B&C a year and a half ago and I paid $410.00 with shipping for my Husqvarna 359 with 5 tanks through it and a new 20" PowerMatch Plus bar and new Oregon LGX chain on it.

i feel this is perfect combo

026 18" bar 044 28" , im running a 3/8 chain on the 026 so if i have alot of 20" wood to buck i can swap the bar from the 026 to the 044 and getr done in a hurry.

whatever brand you go with id recomend the 70cc category. they outcut and outshine the 60cc in most all categorys, and the 044 is dang near as light as the 361

Might have to take a trip to look at the 7900 - the power to weight looks impressive - on paper at least......:) Performance should compare well to the 441, and if I can pick it up for $100 less than the 441 then the price is right too.

Don't have a dealer too close, but could be a good way to spend Saturday morning....

Hey Evan are you just running one bar nut on that 044?:jawdrop:That will make it lighter.

+1

You need a saw in the 70 cc class.

Dolmar 7300/7900.
Husky 372XP/372XPW.
Stihl 441/460.

All good. All will make you happy.

Dolmat

Just read up a little on the Dolmar and Husky. Wondered how the 7900 makes its 6.3 HP, then realized its actually a 80cc class saw (79cc). So about a pound lighter than the 70cc 441 rated at 5.5 HP. The Husky 372 is also about a pound lighter rated at 5.3 HP. Agree that any one of these would be good complement to a 50cc. Need to see how they feel, and ideally how they perform. My dealer in NC always had saws to try - not sure that holds in PA/NJ....

i have an 026, a 310, a 359, and 3-7900s. i use the 026 and 7900. i think for only two saws the 026 (really the 346 or 5100) and the 7900 are perfect. the 7900 is light enough to tote around all day. i just prefer to use the 026 when it will do the job <~12" and save the 7900 for the bigger trees and stumps.

Just came back from test-driving three saws this morning - the MS361, MS441, and Dolmar 7900.

Was VERY interesting. The 441 with 28" bar clearly has all the power I'd ever need - I have trees up to about 34-36". Even though it is only about 2lbs heavier than the 361 on paper it felt a LOT heavier tanked up ready to go. Anyone know the weight of full 441 ready for work? Also the price was up there - about $880 + tax with 25" bar and chain

Sorry to say the 361 felt great. Nicely balanced, seemed plenty powerful (to me at least) pulling a 20" bar. Everything about it felt right. Would also be interested to know the weight of a fully tanked (2 stroke and bar oil) 361 with a 25" bar. About $660 + tax including 25" bar and chain. Wonder though how comfortable the 361 is pulling a 25" bar?

The biggest surprise to me was the Dolmar 7900. What an amazing saw! Light powerful, very quick to rev, nicely engineered, good balance etc. Did not have a chance to weigh it fully tanked up and ready to go - but empty with bar and chain it came in at about 19 lbs. It was my morning for sticker shock tho because the Dolmar with 24" bar and chain comes in at about $770 + tax.

Just for comparison I went out to the garage to weigh a fully tanked 026 with 18" bar - which on my scale in comes in at 15 lbs even.

Three good choices - now need to raise some cash....

With the stuff you're after [IIRC], probably a bit out-gunned unless wearing skip chain. It's my all-around saw, so it wears RSC; it's great until that bar is burried: then I really have to baby it. Keep planning to try skip [my dealer say's its great on 25"], but haven't yet.

I was just testing out the muffler-mod, and when into a bit of detail here how it performed in a big stump:

25" skip is at the end of a stock 361's performance. Ported may be nice though. It is a heck of a limber but full 25" buried cuts will leave you wanting more. Sounds like you are needing the 441 or 7900....

BAB,

Max out the credit card and buy 'em all. NOT!

They will all do a great job for you. It's the "itch" that will develop if you keep hanging out here.

Choose wisely,
