I can't imagine running anything but an unlimited coil on a modded saw. There's no quick way to check your tune. A quick second or two of WOT and I know I'm still gtg. If you tune in the wood, that's fine for right then. But it can't be duplicated without more timed cuts. That's impractical IMHO. My prefered method is to tune the saw with timed cuts and then see where the RPMs are. I can then duplicate that tune in any environment with my tach. It's just a lot safer and simpler to have a unlimited coil on a modded saw.

In that case Husky and Dolmar are all worthless:greenchainsaw:
In reality.. the tuning isn't that hard. You quickly get a feel for how it "feels/sounds" in the wood. In other words, a quick second or two in the wood, and it's ready to go.

WOT is a crude and approximate way to set the "tune". :)

You know what the saw costs. Why give it away?

In my case dealer never keeps one in stock......so what ever profit
he made on it, was a quick turn around. He ordered it on a Mon.
it was picked up and paid for on the next Thur.

Got a brandnew MS880 last week, the non-rev coil just showed up today.
Got the saw broke down and reading to mill and port.
I also modified an 36" Oregon Reduced Weight bar to fit the Stihl large mount.
I will report back sometime soon with a vid.

Going back to the coast again? An 880 with a 36" bar? And modded? I want to see that thing eat.

Inquiring minds want to know. What are the plans? Something like this?

OMG what happened to that piston?!?!? Looks a tad lightened.....:greenchainsaw:

that ther al-you-minnie-umm mus be gittin' scarce!

Pretty soon we'll be using Red Bull cans to keep our 026s going.....:greenchainsaw:

just kidding, that looks like it would go jest a wee bit faster than a stock setup....

LOL, not Red Bull but I have seen some that run like they are on <a href="http://www.clipartof.com"><img src="http://www.clipartof.com/images/emoticons/xsmall2/1994_snorting_cocaine.gif" alt="Free Smileys & Emoticons at Clipart of.com" border="0"></a>

My 880 is limited somewhere over 12k, so since mine is unmodified that's no problem for me.

But since yours is modified I guess you want some more r's. What rpm can the cranks stand up to?

That saw should be an awesome performer. I know you run really sharp chains, and that thing will chow wood.

Going to run 3/8 or .404? With only a 36 inch bar it won't even know it's in wood unless you really stand on it.

Also you are a man of true conviction to mod a $1500 saw brand new.

No Bob, just a want - not a need.
Not a milling saw or one that will be used for rippers.
Just a toy that's gonna sound and run like a hopped up 660, but will pull a 9 tooth.
Gonna mod it like the other two I have done for others (full blown).
Anyway, the proof is in the pudding.

I have a stock saw phobia.

They give you nightmares? For me I'd run the saw a few tanks stock just as a baseline before modding. But that what separates the men from the boys, maybe. Conviction!

I look forward to the progress updates.

Other than that cool factor, which is undeniably high in this case, what does an 880 with a 36" bar get you that a hopped up 660 with a 42" doesn't?

Looking forward to the build/videos/etc.
