Did that and the plug is still dry. the fuel is pumped by the vacuum from the impulse line, right? What are the things to look for in the carb?

Get the number off your carb and get the rebuild kit.

At least for me, if you're at the point where you have the carb off and are disassembling it to take a peek, you may as we'll clean and rebuild the entire thing.

Just take pictures of everything, especially the way the gaskets come off on both sides.
