well, the oil in the fuel tanks was actually bar oil. I dumped it and rinsed the fuel tank out several times with premix. nothing nasty came out. saw wouldn't start until I put a little premix in the spark plug hole. fired right up and ran great for like 5 seconds. did that several times but it dies and won't restart. need to figure out what carb I have and order a carb kit, some new duckbills. may have some bar oil in the carb or fuel line. when I cleaned the fuel tank the stone fuel line filter in the tank came off. did not see and signs of bar oil goo in the filter or line at the tank end. when I pull the covers off to look at the carb, will look at the air filter. I think this little guy is a runner.

for me, the top priority is getting everything clean. to do that properly everything has to be sealed. this engine is not going to be opened unless there is a problem when I put it back together so double sure it has to be sealed while cleaning.

I remember a Roper appliance company way back. my dad had a sears or craftsman chainsaw when I was a kid. I think it was blue (60 some years ago). it was either one of these or made by homelite for sears.

this thing is so tiny. got it today for 30.00. googled it and it said 1976-1982, 31.1cc, powerhead 7lbs 12oz. anyone know if the Textron homelites were any good?

Wow! That little beast was my 1st saw. Tornado took out the back yard when I was 12. 1982 Step dad bought a Pro Mac 650 and that little homie the week before it happened so we could heat the house with wood. Cool saw. Man did we ever heat with wood after that. Ah the good old days.

the carb on the Super 2 was full of sticky bar oil. oozed out of the inlet on the bench. coated all of the membranes and passages. shot carb cleaner thru everything followed by compressed air.

blowing compressed air through carb passages is not a good thing to do.
There are check valves that can get damaged
when I read your post, I goggled it after, and you are entirely correct. somehow, I have gotten away with it on the other 2 saws I did. hope I didn't screw this one up. won't know until my other couple parts come in and I put the saw back together. what I read was about ama carbs having internal check valves. any idea if the Walbro HDC's have internal check valves? I'm used to Keihin and Mikuni dirt bike carbs.

thank you for this information.
