Big saws generally have a nice idle and a habit to shake foundations of your workshop. I don't have vids of two men saws handy, but this is a nice sounding solo Rex. You can almost count the RPM...:hmm3grin2orange:

Now that's a familiar sound! :hmm3grin2orange:

It's contrary to the theme of this thread, but I enjoy how my hydraulic saws have only the sprocket and chain noise. (Electric pump).

My Browser Sucks...

You guys are killing me. All I see are pages of big squares with tiny white boxes in them. PLEASE post the link to the video in your posts. There are folks here (OK it may just be me...) that can't get embedded videos to work on AS. Gotta be something in my browser/security settings, but I haven't figured it out yet. It's strange, since embedded videos work fine for me on other VBulletin sites...

The saw in my collection that sounds the best to me is my McCulloch 790 (box muffler). After that it's probably the McCulloch 550 (stack), then the C-Series Homelites (one box, one stack), the McCulloch 250 (stack), and the XL12 family Homelites (various box muffler styles....I'll probably swap a stack onto one of 'em for fun if I can scare one up). Haven't had the Wards/Mono WD60 running right yet. I immagine it will be an ear splitter, with it's short, open stack...:D

Can't say I'm much of a fan of the noise that comes from my PM 10-10 or the teeny Poulan. Same for the 031AV (although the 031's more pleasant than that Mac). Haven't yet ran the XP1020 (box), the Remington SL-9 (teeny stack), my Original EZ (small box), the S E-Z Auto (box), or the Super 250 (HD 'Puck') yet. I've heard all of those models (except for the Remington) run before though. I love the sound of a Homelite 2000/2100. Don't have one of my own yet however. I've ran a few that belong to a friend. Same for the Homelite 900/909/990/995 D/G series saws and the Homelite XL800/900 saws. The 120cc McCulloch 77 gear drive I traded to Mark H. had a fantastic sound. The ancient McCulloch 35 gear drives have a cool sound for their small engine size.

Thanks TT for putting up the link for me. Sounds great. I love the sound of multiple saws idling like that. Sounds like a Kawasaki tripple at idle. Hopefuly this will bring out Lee's "Gaggle of Dolmar 166's" video (if he didn't already post it above, and I just couldn't see it). It's something special to see and hear indeed!:D

Roland, that Solo has the sound I'm talking about! Sounds great.

That XL-12 with a stack sounds like heck, its just loud thats all. The 10-10 sounds tinny as well.

Ricks, 650 has got it going on and the 064's aint bad either!

Poulans still sound the toughest.....just sayin':biggrinbounce2:

good thread

I now think I'm catching the bug- I guess it's called CAD...

All those sound great. My saw hasn't got that good deep rumble those older ones do and my they have a sweet sound, thanks Modified Mark for starting the thread and letting me hear all that everyone's posted.

I just found the thread, and it inspired me to spend the last 40 minutes trying to get something together to post. Apologies in advance, not in possession of a video camera so had to bring the saw into the house next to the computer Microphone.. not real computer literate either, but managed to get this together. Hope it works

On youtube page, look below video screen for "Embed" click it.
The embed code will pop-up, right click code and copy.
Then here on AS click the globe with chain link at the bottom.
In drop down delete the http or what ever it is, then paste the
code you copied from youtube in drop down box.

Most times I send a bill to Husky guys for info like this but..............Merry Christmas :hmm3grin2orange:

Thought I might as well add to this..:D This was some of the first cuts with it, was idling a little fast. Can hear the top cover rattling also. Since fixed that.

Gregg,

You got an bad working technique, what you are doing are very bad for your back. You must bend in the knees, not the back.

And that is something i see alot here, very bad working techniques. People here is porting, and modding saws, an running the hell out of the saws. Treating them like it wasyour wife or kid.
but it dosent seem like they care about their bodies. I seem like some of dont even got Chainsaw safety pants, or chaps. If you buy chainsaw also buy safety gear, and if doesent can afford it, then can you just forget the hole chainsaw thing.

Dont you got "chainsaw schools" ?

Maybe you should have the norway guy install "Trio brake" on that bad boy. That you you never cut in a bad position again. ROFL

I liked a bunch of the saws in this thread.

Here is my 056 MagII the coolest saw I have at idle.

Do you think he will say my saw has bad posture, setting in a chair that way.

LOLOL......Hey Valtra, I know you mean well but the one thing I like about most american folks here is that they are very down to earth people and don't need no liberal tutoring or regulations from the government about how they have to operate a saw. I hate to say it, but they are no sissies like most of the europeans when it comes to protecting their rights of personal freedom.

Although you are correct about the knee bending being good for your back, almost 99% of the saw operators I know bent over while cutting a log. If that's how they like it, so be it. it's a free world.

The majority on here does promote the use of PPE, don't worry. But they will not go into full battle dress or wear a harnass to demo a cookie cutting, neither am I.

So put everything in perspective and I am sure you'll be OK.;)
