Pioneer chainsaws

Got this a couple summers ago. Seems rather low-houred. No compression. Pulled the top end and found a broken ring, ruined piston and tore up exhaust port. Luckily, I have a couple of 14-20 parts saws with at least one good top end.

Don't usually see these with paint this nice.

Already on the upside. Cleaned as much as I dare, not wanting to lose the original paint. Got compression and spark now. Took the primer apart and found the diaphragm intact. It's soaking in brake fluid. Once I fix the check valves, I've no doubt it will work.

I'm bouncing around between saw threads, but I got the recoil restrung on the 2200. Good compression, spark is a bit intermittent so I'll have to look into that.

Also bought an FM80 that looks to have had the recoil swapped with a different one(frankensaw?). Was sold as "does not spin over"; turns out the string was caught in the pulley. Got that taken care of, seems to have good compression but it's a little beat up. Haven't checked spark yet but it has the blue ignition coil.

I'll grab pictures when I get off work showcasing both saws.

Working on the "franken" Farmsaw.

Recoil spring decided to break, I'm taking a wild guess here but given that the recoil was switched out, I think it's off of a p40/50 series? Need to find a spring that will fit.

P38 and up have similar body styles. I am quite certain a p40, 41, 42 recoil side is the same as the farm saw. Those plastic cogs it has have been known to wear out too quite easily

Got the 14-50 cleaned and running. Small setback, the gas tank had a hole at the very bottom that only made itself known after fueling and starting it. Cleaned, JBwelded the outside and sealed the inside. These tanks seem to suffer more than most from corrosion. I do have 1 new spare but they are a collosal pain to swap.

Dragged out my 65cc and 77cc direct drives. All I lack is the 14-10. The gear drive versions are back on the shelf.

I found this tidbit in the owner's manual interesting. Conversion parts for an HM to HC. The only thing I feel the HM would benefit from is the HL carb. The rest is cosmetic.

Beautiful saw Chris. They really have some style like early 50's cars that seems to be lacking in the modern saws...

Thanks. I was happy to find the NOS HC. Heard about last year, took awhile but I contacted the owner eventually and made a deal. Even more, he had a 2nd which went to a big-time collector.

I have a 14-10, project saw. Think the coil is bad on it. Also I hear something rattling around in the oil tank. Haven't made the time to dig into the saw much, not sure if she's worth trying to get back to working order. Piston and cylinder look good on it though

I teared up a bit when I saw the piston and cylinder photos. That saw is way too nice not to fix up though!
