Building a 275 early case with manual oiler. Cleaning and sorting parts now, paint then build this winter

PM 275 rebuilt as far as I can go, bought a clutch off eBay now just watching for a recoil, muffler and top cover.

Looking good. In your travels if you ever come across a top cover for a 1690 i have two
1690's with missing top covers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ouch. You may end up waiting till hell freezes over for that muffler.

I am going to try and sand cast one if I don’t find one for mine.

sand casting one would be interesting, very hard to find parts for these, I know where there’s another PM just wait for a nice day to go check it out. No idea on condition or which one it is

picked up a good muffler and recoil today and they came with the rest of the saw.
it was a good find.

pretty happy with that I can finish off the one that’s rebuilt and painted .
I also got a Skil 1670 that’s stuck so I think it’s going to be a parts saw that will maybe supply a top for my 385 have to check out some measurements

The Skil 1670 is a PM270. You won't find much that you need will swap over. The fuel tank is common (of all things) and the clutch and clutch cover I think. Top covers, mufflers, recoil, motor, carb, filter are all unique.

Would you happen to know if a cylinder and piston from a PM 177 type would swap to that 1670? Same bore and stroke. There was another saw he had I think it was a177 or skil version of that.

Quick glance says absolutely not. The 175 is probably the better option.

What is that you're taking apart? Have fun getting those rings loose.

Skil 1670, the piston and rings are soaking, see what happens.
got my 275 finished today

Getting back on the right track. I swapped the crankcase on the 275 to get fuel tank to bolt up right and the top to fit. I still want to know what is different on the earlier saws that use my manual oiling case.

I have 2 different 275 tops, I have been reading online and looking at photos. I think the one with little paint is from an early 275, will have to do some measuring on case’s to look for difference but just fitting on top of both old and newer it fits different.

Never knew there were 2 different one piece top covers. Interesting, I will have to look at mine.
