I just did an internet comparison of the Stihl 460 vs the Solo 681.
Stihl- 76.5cc,6.0HP,16.5lbs no bar
Solo 681- 80.7cc,6.4HP,14.6lbs no bar
You tell me?
Has Troll commented on these specs since he is so weight vs power conscious?
And I can tell you since I own a 395 that w/24" BC and about 3lbs. lighter saw the 681 makes more sense than a 395. The 395 will pull ahead when the bars are 28"+.

Your 460 weight is off and yes, the 681 is the more powerful saw but give me a 460 anyday. I've always thought the 395 is too heavy when you could have the lighter 660.

16.5lb for a 460..........Hard to believe that number.....


Flush-Cut MS460 = 6.6 kg (14.6 lbs.) PHO

Thats not my weight, that is what Stihl says it ways! As for 395vs 660 weight They are actually very close so there it is just a matter of what feels good in the hand.

I tried to check on the 395 weight at baileys but didn't see any huskies...The 660 is 16.5lbs(as Ultra posted) and the 395 17.5lbs from another site that lists husky for mail order, LOL. I agree with what feels good in your hands though.

In my case it is take off my glasses and I stand corrected as I was looking at the 660 weight. However the 660 vs 395 can boil down to other factors since both are very close in stats. I hope a 460 will be at Eric's GTG so we can run them side beside with the Solo.
I believe Solo did a good job at building a saw that was both light and powerful but doesn't line up too close to the competition. No way would I want to build a saw that would go head to head with Stihl or Husky.

i have a good solo dealer talked me into buying a 651 pro. i love it ive had it 4or 5 years havent had any problems with it.also talk me into a 643 he put a 14 inch bar on it. man its a limbing machine. ive had it 2 yrs. but dont think it last as long as the 651.to me its about dealer support.run what you like .i like solo

cheers to all of you from the input and i think the overall opinion is that the solo is a good, well made saw but just like them all it has its weak spots.
the boss has just taken the dealership on for solo so it will be interesting to see how they match up.
