Afew years ago i purchased a homemade splitter(horizontal). It has a 8 H.P. B.S. engine, Northern # 1056 pump(16 G.P.M?) cyl. is 3" bore with 24" stroke.splitter runs good but seems AWFUL slow even at full R.P.M.Is this a good set-up or way out of balance?...THANKS for any input!!!

yeah, should be very fast. filter partially clogged? lines necked down to small?

Some good suggestions. Other possibilities: maybe your cylinder piston is shot and passing oil right through. Does it have much force, ie can it split when it finally gets there?
Maybe the pump is stuck in the high pressure stage, and the high speed gears are continuously bypassing, or maybe the gears are worn out altogether.
Or is there enough oil in the tank, and is the line to the pump at least 1" ID with no restrictions and no air leaks?

Just thinking out loud.
