I've always wondered, with the "sort of" legit looking stampings, but crude milling job, if it came from Stihl as some weird modified version back then.
I know It was made by Mahle, but they probably didn't do a crappy milling job like this. Has anyone else ever ran into something like this? I pictured a cross brand next to it to compare the missing dome material.
-and of course I know anyone could have punched that letter and arrow ìn there, but what does the "c" mean? Was there maybe a special lowered compression version, which would be odd. Also in the last pic; on the box's label; it has a couple of different languages, but maybe there is a clue to this in the "AVEC" piston?

Or maybe Sasquatch did it with a grinder.....

Nope, you got screwed on that piston, as its been messed with. The C is the tolerance code that Stihl used to match cylinders to pistons, but it's been restamped.

Looks like they started to window it too, but never finished.

It is common to come across NOS parts that were unsold because of missing parts. Someone could have sold the oem piston assy. while it was on a shelf, and the e-bay seller tossed an aftermarket piston assy in there, or
anything is possible.

Avec is French meaning 'with' (with piston). There's no way that piston left the factory looking like that!
Did you ever work in a factory? In the one I worked in you could get anything in (or out) of it. You just have to get two or three employees to agree, not hard to do..many factory workers don't like their jobs..
