Hello,
I have inherited this saw along with a partially assembled McCulloch (will thread that one later this week).
It seems the only thing missing besides a chain is the pull-start assembly; i have been searching this site along with google images but can't find one that looks quite like mine. I'm hoping someone here owns one of these and can help me out so that I can get the manual, some specs, a couple parts and some solid advice. Thanks in advance, and shout outs to all the other desert saw hoarders on here (if there are any!)

By the way, it has a Bosch plug and the filter is from Finland (I trust they know all about fresh air).
Picture got cut off but it does not look to me like they need to be replaced yet.

Looks like a 372 to me but there's a couple in that series that look almost like each other.

365, 372, 385, or 390. Pull the top cover and there should be a number stamped in blue ink on top of the cylinder. That'll be a big clue.

so that bar that's on [it looks like a stihl] it should be fine, right? . then i just need a 20'' 0.058 + 3/8" (.375) chain, plus a starter assembly;

do the AM starters work ok?
I can't read the markings on the bar. It should tell you what you need. If it's a Stihl bar you'll need an adapter. You'll also need to make sure the rim sprocket pitch matches the bar tip. I generally don't like Chinese parts. YMMV...

I'm sure there's plenty of guys that will look at it and say "that's a 372 because of xxx". I'm leaning to 365/372 but I can't say why.
Not a 390 because of the filter cover latches and the tank, not a 365 special(or the standard 365 because it has a side tensioner) or it would be a low top if original.
372xp. OE, or original edition.
Most likely because the 371 had the holes in the clutch drum(on many) if it's original.

I'd guess it's an early 372 based on the gas caps and the screws in the covers, the proper fasteners for the recoil won't have take an Allen wrench, just a regular or Phillips head screwdriver.

Obviously this is all speculation.
You have a good saw there.

Wonder why the ID tag is missing?
I've gotten them that way that were warranty saws, the dealer will remove the tag and the saws are supposed to be trashed, many find their way to a new home and a new life.
@Duce ever heard of that :drinkingcoffee:.

How about using a drinking straw or ice lollie stick to measure the cylinder ID through the exhaust post?
Will narrow down the guesses.

Could be missing the ID tags because it is no longer what the tag used to say- a saw made from various parts, like a low top 60 cc something turned into a 60cc bottom end with a 70cc top end and hightop air box?
