Why are flippy caps hated?

This is nothing but a long overdebated subject, that no longer is any fun to make fun of Stihl about (did I get that right? - :greenchainsaw:).....

Also, those caps aren't a real issue, actually I tend to like them!

Agreed, but the debate will run on long after we're dead and gone. At this point in this thread, participants mostly are just here to see and be seen. I could fault your grammar, but there's no need. I understood you perfectly, and I'm sure your English grammar is WAY better than my Norwegian grammar. :)

There only are a few things I'd really need to know how to say if I visited Norway:

1. Where does SawTroll live?
2. Where's the best cheap beer in this country?
3. Baby, you are more beautiful than my milled and ported Stihl MS660, and you smell MUCH better.
3a. No teeth!
4. Where's the bathroom?
5. How do I make bail?

Lol you got lucky troll mine suck and they suck dirty or clean too:monkey: I really don't like them it is my opinion but I am not alone but your prolly right about the making fun part. I can't seem to help myself.

To me, the flippy caps just mean that you need to do a bit more cleaning - like one minute a day at most + you never can over-tighten them..... :)

Not much to quarrel about, imo! :greenchainsaw:

I agree Saw Troll I think they are a good design you just have to make sure the cap engages before you flip it down. It came out on me one time even with the cap flipped down. It was my fault.:dizzy:

I would have to guess that alot less Husky guys would hate them if Husky had invented them.

Then there are those who refuse to accept change.

Then theres a few who actually just don't like them or have had a problem out of them.

I myself have had more problems out of the older caps than the new ones.

Even if it is 1 problem with old style, to none with the flippys.

If husky had flippy's I would own something else. I used to be a stihlhead, it changed with the flippy and all in one choke switch. I don't care much for gadgets on my tools. After switching to husky and feeling their smooth power, I would never want change. Why change a terrific dependable product. Anyway, I can understand that some do like gadgets and have not had the feel of a fine husky in the cut to know the difference. To those I say; don't run one or you may end up switching to the orange side. It really don't make much difference to me, my husky's I have now will last until retirement so, I am covered. Sure, I may have to do a rebuild before that date but they will be fifteen, so it will be expected. Nope; until they come out with a laser beam saw, I will stick with the big Dawgs.

Uh, the single control lever has been a staple at Stihl since what? Early 80's? I don't see the connection in the development of the flippy.......... Or did you quit Stihl twice?

I also fail to see how the cheap, POS Husky kill switch is any kind of improvement. Not an anit-husky rant, have several and plan to keep them, but their kill switches are pure crap (except the 2100 that is) and scream CHEAP. I too appreciate simple machinery. What could be more simple than a single lever that controls everything? Which is really more "gadgety", the one with multiple controls, moving parts? Or the one with one control?:monkey:

The Stihl control lever is kind of like my 2004 Chevy, hop in turn the key and she's going. Turn the key off, and it's off. The Husky is more like the old Duece and a half we have at work, turn on the master control, hit the separate starter switch and your going. To kill it you have to kill the master then pull out the engine stop. Yup, multiple controls is definitely more simple.... Of course my Chevy is loaded with more gadgets, so it must suck.:greenchainsaw:

Well well; I started cutting in 81 so all saws were like my husky's, separate switch for separate functions then stihl come out with a switch that to me feels cheezy and has hieroglyphics instead of plain English, that was the day I turned orange.

I don't really like vehicles past this one and yes it has a separate pull choke and switch and pulls many chevy's outta da mud too<a href="http://www.sweetim.com/s.asp?im=gen&lpver=3&ref=11" target="_blank"><img src="http://content.sweetim.com/sim/cpie/emoticons/00020473.gif" border="0" title="Click to get more." ></a>

Found Off Road Dead? Nice try though.:hmm3grin2orange:

Nice vintage ride, back when trucks were trucks and girls could shoot and field dress their own game.

Someone who doesn't need one. :)

I should amend what I said. I said I usually didn't take one, but more accurately there was usually one in the glove compartment that I almost never bothered to dig out. I saw it as working in the woods was for cutting. ####ing around with mechanicing was for home. I'd take gas, oil, a file, wedges, splitting maul, saw, gloves, and ear plugs, and that was it.

Well, I hope you never get a stuck nose sprocket, or need to clean the bar during a WHOLE day of work!

Good thing you don't cut palms, you'd need 20 saws to get through the day if you never bring a scrench to clean out the #### that builds up after 20 minutes...

I like um no fus no probs, the only thing i would change on the stihls is make the fuel tank clear like on the 660s please.:)

:agree2:<a href="http://www.sweetim.com/s.asp?im=gen&lpver=3&ref=11" target="_blank"><img src="http://cdn.content.sweetim.com/sim/cpie/emoticons/00020408.gif" border="0" title="Click to get more." ></a>

Ha ha, there are people that do and then there's, well people that talk 'bout doing.

"####ing around with mechanicing was for home. I'd take gas, oil, a file, wedges, splitting maul, saw, gloves, and ear plugs, and that was it."

And I wonder what he needs a file for if "####ing around" is for home only??

I've got scwrenches cached all over the place, shop, truck, toolboxes and even have a shorty I've been known to climb with. I'm of the camp of find it and fix it to get back to flingin' chips. Filing is definitely for the shop, I bring spare chains and that's where the scwrench comes to light, again....:greenchainsaw:

Lmfao its f-irst o-n r-ace d-ay. The shoe is my dogs play toy and only orange. That truck has the motor that started the motor that dominated the race track in the 60's and if it ever craps out it will get the 428 crank and cobra jet heads but it will likely be a long time as it has 55 lbs oil pressure steady vacuum at 18 and plenty power and torque!
