Hi Guys,
I know this sounds as if it should have been talked about. I was at a trade show last week and I am looking at a 50-60cc saw. I have seen soo many now and cant decide. Wont be used day to day but would like the best I can afford. I have an old 346xp ported which is now becoming iffy. Bar size? Probably no more than 20". I enjoy the wild ride of the 346 when it runs!
Any thoughts would be nice.
Paul

Forget the two 'usual suspect brands' go for the 50cc Dolmar 5105 or the 60cc Dolmar 6100. Don't get me wrong. The other two brands make good saws but over the whole world professional arborists change over their back handle saws to Dolmar. For me the reasons where. Better power to weight ratio, foolproof technique, easy serviceable, zero sudden breakdowns.
Some say, go for a brand with a service point near you but to me that sounds like. Buy a saw with flaws and use the service point frequently.
All serviceable parts (sprocket, bar and chains) can be Oregon so imho there is no need for a specialised Dolmar dealership in the neighbourhood.

I will look into that. Dolmar not so common in UK. But good shout all the same. Know them from Germany.

Rebuild the 346
Hi Jeff, I will not chuck the 346. When I have a new saw I will spend some time on the 346. I am restoring a stihl 192c at the moment . I just sold my back up saw a Husky 350 to invest in a new saw.
Thanks Paul

:laugh::laugh: That may be true in the dreams of a few Dolmar people - but generally isn't!

I´m not even sure you can get Dolmar in UK. The site takes me straight to Makita. ?

I had a dolmar, i didn't have enough wrenches to keep it running. a buddy of mine is a logger, he bought a few dolmars yea they cut good, but heavy and have some flimsey parts and fell apart after a year. he went back to stihl. that's my opinion

You can't go wrong with a MS261 or a 550XP.
Hi
I have been looking at your modded saw on youtube. You prefer the huskies? One factor I´m looking at is the Dolmar 5105 is about $165 cheaper. I have a ported 346xp at the moment that is playing up. Will try to get that one looked at first before making a decision.
PS: love the videos
