    ebay 385XP

I like my 385, but this one looks like a parts saw to me. JMO but I think I see three different colors on the plastic. Maybe somebody had a few that were trashed, and tried to make a good one? Just looks a little too beat for that price. I could be wrong though.

    Cutting Sea Ice

Sorry, no mythbusters needed. There are no ducks in wisconsin when the water is frozen. They are migratory. Without open water they die, so they go south in the winter.

    My latest build

Looks great. Good work. But I am curious how much one would have to spend to do it, and if it is worth it other than the fact that you did it yourself. I'm not trying to be a naysayer here, just seems like a lot of money for those parts.

How to start a saw without grip or starter rope?

If I was selling the saw you wouldn't use that unless you were going to pay for it after the crank broke. A drill would be OK, but an impact wrench is a little more shock than the end of a crankshaft is made for.

    New saw break in

I've never stopped after the motor is warm. If anything I think you are better to run the whole tank through. The engine is designed to run best at operating temp. By keeping it cold the whole time it will never really get to ideal conditions. And you will get a lot less work done. I would...

    Chainsaw Terminology

Taking the powerhead off of a hung up bar also protects the saw when the tree falls. Not that I've ever had a bar pinched or anything...

    Cutting Sea Ice

I have cut thinner ice with chainsaws, and it cuts like butter. I would think that any big powerhead that can turn the chain would cut through 8' without much trouble. Any competent machine shop should be able to make the bar. Be sure that they use the right kind of material, and get it...

*Should* I try and load this into my truck???

If you don't have far to go you should be OK. Make sure you strap the front down in the bed, and drive slow. As far as loading it, you will need some kind of jack. even a good floor jack will probably get it high enough. But why do you want 11 foot lumber? What are you going to make with it...

    homelite super xl clutch removal

I'm not too sure on the homelite, but normally the clutch is threaded onto the crank. And it's usually left handed. If you do a search you will find info on different ways of removing them. For the spark plug, helicoils will work most of the time. Just be sure to remove ALL of the chips that...

    question for you muffler modders....

I've used them several times in a pinch. They do not make as strong a weld as regular filler metal, but if it is all you have it will get your equipment up and running again.

Look at the threads and make sure they are not left handed.

    How to properly use wedges...

Hey logjam, where are you? If you're somewhere close, I could run over and help you drop it this weekend. It would have to be tomorrow or monday, as I am pretty busy this afternoon. PM me if you're interested.

How did you come here/Who brought you here?

Google. Seeing as so many of us have fallen victim to this site through google, maybe we should total up what it has cost us since we came here, and file a class action lawsuit against google. Between the cost of new saws, lost time at work, broken down families, etc. If all goes well we...

    winter water heating

Stay away from plastic. It is an insulator, and therefore will not lend itself to heat transfer very well. Copper is a little more expensive, but will work a lot better. Also be prepared to mop the floor a lot. You may get quite a bit of condensation on the pipe depending on the humidity in...

    346XP Need Help

How "very tiny" is this scratch? As long as it is not through the lining on the cylinder you should be able to hone it and put it back on. Hard to say for sure without seeing it though.

    leaking Blitz fuel cans

Is there less risk of spark in plastic cans? I thought it was the other way around. The plastic can create static electricity sparks because it will not ground itself. Metal does not create static unless it is sitting on a bedliner. At least that is what one of my firefighter friends told...

    fireplace concerns w/new baby

I would install a CO detector and continue to use the fireplace as normal. I've never heard of any health related concerns for babys. Many people heat solely with wood and have children that have lived through it.

    New Guy Here

I use a little extra mix oil during break in. Not sure if it helps, or not but I do it anyway. And try not to hold wide open for extended periods. Basically just baby it a little bit. As far as kickback goes, never cut with the upper 1/2 of the tip, and be carefull when cutting with the top...
