    fire axe inc 8lb flathead.

Have used one extensively for forcible entry while on the job and think highly of it. As a wood cutter, it sucks heavily.

    spike pads

Climbing in cheap stock pads is like using dull chain on a saw. Sure you'll get through it eventually but you'll wear out the saw and yourself in the process. Pads are not that expensive so there's no reason not to upgrade for such an increase in comfort which translates into an increase in...

    Work Boots Steel toed/shank?

Take an old pair of steel toed boots and cut the toes out. Take a 10lb sledgehammer and hit them repeatedly. If they are not K-mart specials you will have a HARD time crushing them. I've ran an 80K ladder truck over them repeatedly with NO deformation. Also ran a JD450 with no effect. It...

    Where are all the veterans?

    So where is Rocky?

    Where are all the veterans?

He was my all time favorite member. I looked forward to his posts because you knew they were gonna show insane big wood, killer rigging, and pro photography to show it all. He seemed like the tree guy I'd like to work for.

    Where are all the veterans?

Don't have as much time to get on here as I used to. Where are alot of the guys that used to be fixtures on this board? What happened to RockyJSquirrel? I used to get a kick out of him. What about RBTree? His big wood work and photography was second to none. Any of these guys ever post...

    buckingham gaffs

My 3 1/2" Buckingham non-replaceable gaffs are about 13 years old and still work great. I don't walk in them so they stay sharp for a long time. A lick with a file every so often keeps them good. I like the long gaffs personally because with my big feet they give me more bite. I've climbed...

    anyone around atlanta?

Absolutely! There is a recreational tree climbing school in Atlanta called Tree Climbers International that holds classes a few times a month. The classes are not specifically arborist related but give a good intro into rope climbing. Peter Jenkins is the owner and will teach more advanced...

    What's on yur saddle?

8' steel core w/micrograb on left. Figure eight, redirect sling, extra hitch cord and pulley, 2-3 biners, 4' web sling, cmi pulley etc. on rear. This may change depending on what I'm doing. I may add more or take some out. 020 goes on right or left depending on which side I make a cut...

Clean up with new Echo/Redmax back blowers

Redmax 7001. Or the new 8000 if you're a masochist. I blow sticks and twigs etc. all the the time with mine and it'll blow stuff out of grass too. Anything less is a waste of time and money.

    How to pull over trees?

So after all of the info presented on this site in the last few years there are those that still use techniques like a barberchair? ON PURPOSE? I cannot believe what I just read. I learned the hard way about ten years ago pulling over leaning trees with a comealong hooked to a 3:1 pulling...

    So whadja do today?

But are you doing any lowering or cut-n-toss? Have to miss any obstruction underneath? If I'm cutting the tree down I usually end up on a spar that less than half the height of the tree nest to it so I can't transfer from tree to tree.:)

    So whadja do today?

What did I do today? Finished recovering! I got started at 2pm removing 14 pines 2 days ago. At 9:30 I dropped the last spar standing. Went home to sleep, got up and went back to cut 3 more for a neighbor and skid wood out with an ATV and my Jeep as well as chip alot of brush and clean up...

    Stihle

Nowadays I seem to prefer thickening saws over thinning saws. Just fire it up and trees appear where there once were none.
