Troll,
You have both the 5100 and the 346NE. What's are the actual weights of the two. This seems to be one of the major issues of the OP.

It is not really notisable in the wood-pile (about halv a pound - the original 346xp was another halv pound lighter), but it is in the woods - other handling characteristics enter the picture as well, that make the NE346xp the best option.

On the flip side, the 5100 has an inboard clutch (sort of a trade-off vs handling regarding small saws).

I like the 5100's .......Very good value....

Sure they are......

..one thing that hasn't been adressed here is the way better air filter system of the Husky - but imo the Dolmar one isn't a problem with proper maintenance......

You can save alot of cash buying the 5100 ........Im still waiting to see the stock NE346 running a 3/8 on a 20" all day cutting firewood....  The NE346 I tested had a 16" .325....

I see you went back and added a few things .......hehe

And make sure you dont run it with the winter flap open .........

are you implying a stock 5100 cuts with a 20" bar ADL? i find a 361 unable to perform such a task to my standards.

now if you want to see a 346 thats cuts ADL with 20"- 3/8 setup...

So your saying the 346 needs to be modded to do it.......Interesting......

My dealer wont sell a NE 346 with anything bigger than a 18" and only sells them with .325..

.BTW my 5100's run 20" 3/8 on all but two...They are 18" 3/8 till the bars are used up..

fine then, send one down to your homeboy for the next GTG and we will see if she can run with the big dogs, err i mean Huskies!

for some reason nobody seems to want to bring a 5100 out to play, all they want to do is talk what a great saw it is.

:greenchainsaw:

Those says are very close IMO except for price. When you factor that into the equation the 5100 wins hands down. I personally like the feel of the 5100. Its a very comfortable saw to run. I would be interested some day to see how it stacks up against the 346 in the modded arena.

Now let me see if I understand you

450.00 with tax for the saw approx 250.00 for EHP mod + say 30 shipping both ways just to run a 20" ......730.00 + for a saw in 50cc ........Thats funny...

since when did you become so price conscious???

:)

your forgetting the part where it outcuts a $750 stihl. and weighs 2 1/2 lbs less

LMFAO!

I remember it being close with fred's 044 but we didn't run her on the tach, it would not have been close to my 440 I can say that. Also looking at Fred's 044 and 460 times, I know they cut closer than that. Neck and neck in that size wood, bigger and the 460 gets the edge.....

Times from the last GTG:16"-18" wood:
2000ssm6 460 - 8.3 sec.
XJWoody 361 "Lakerized" - 11.7 sec.
ents 460 - 11.9 sec.
wanab redmax 621 - 12.9 sec.
wanab 346xp - 13.0 sec.
ents 044 - 13.0 sec.
2000ssm6 361 - 14.6 sec.
wanab 455 rancher - 18.5 sec.
2000ssm6 026 - 19.9 sec.
XJWoody 029 FB - 21.4 sec.
10"-12" wood:
wanab 346xp - 7.6 sec.
200ssm6 026 - 9.1 sec.
XJWoody dolmar 401 - 17.8 sec.

Id say at least 1/3rd of the New PS5100 we sell leave wearing a 3/8" x 20" straight from Dolmar no mods needed. The 2153 I own would never come close to staying with a PS5100 if it had a 3/8" x 20"

Round these parts most all run 18" - 20" for firewood saws and 20" - 32" for Loggers saws.

huh?

13.2 x .9 = 11.88

70 x 1.09 = 76.3

5.4 x 1.09 = 5.886

ta' math works my friend!

and when they do (in stock form).....It will be kicking a$$ and takin names. :)

Where the Dolmar shines is that it has great torque, along with screaming rpms.....That's why it can handle the 3/8 20" setup like the class champ it is. :givebeer:
