    Shindaiwa poll

Hey Rich, I see you still don't have a 490 in your lineup. ;) I did notice today on Shindaiwa's web site that they are rating the horsepower numbers quite a bit lower than the 488. I figured they were the same engine on both.

    Shindaiwa poll

I'm still using my 488, although not as much here lately. I did take all of my saws out the other day and drained the old fuel and put in new. All of the saws started with the exception of my newest one, the MS250. The reliability of Shindaiwa is second to none!

    I beg to differ......

Geeze, that would make my 35hp 488 seem pretty wimpy!:)

    Yep, Nashville Arkansas.

    Shindaiwa 446s or husqvarna 346xp

Performance, you probably are correct, but quality, you don't have a clue. You should at least hold a Shindaiwa in your hands before you can make that assessment. As for the "anything else" part, who knows what that is.

    Spark Plugs

I look at it this way, put in, what it came with. If you own a Chevy, use AC Delco, if you have a Ford, use Motorcraft. Likewise, if you have a Stihl, then use Bosch or if you have a Shindaiwa, Echo or Redmax, use NGK. I save the Champions for Dodges and lawnmowers.

I see you own a couple of Husqvarnas, so I thought you would be used to people laughing.:)

    75cc Shindiawa Vs. 75cc Husky

Yep, I've got an 034 up in my shop that became a parts saw for that very reason.

I have one of those filters on my 488 and they work very well. Yes, you would think that it would be in the way, but it's really not. The filter is large enough that it doesn't require frequent cleaning. The only downside I have found with this setup is all of the laughs and stares you get...

    75cc Shindiawa Vs. 75cc Husky

I don't want to argue either, but being a machinist by trade, I know a little about bearing fits, and I just can't see how a saw that is modified or not could last very long if the bearings were loose in the crankcase without beating out the case. I would think the bearings would become loose...

    MS180 vs MS181....210 vs 211??

Yeah, @ 7.4 lbs, that sounds pretty good. I just wish the MS200 wasn't so freakin' high, but I'm sure I'm not the only one.:(

    Baby gets a bonnet.

Nice, but I thought I read somewhere where Shindaiwa was going to discontinue that setup for the 488.

    MS180 vs MS181....210 vs 211??

Well, I was kind of hoping that the 171 / 181 would have been a little lighter. A pound or so means nothing to me, but I was thinking about replacing my wife's tired 017 with a new 171 or 181. Trust me, she would notice the difference. My MS 250 and Shindaiwa 488 are both just over 10lbs and...

    MS180 vs MS181....210 vs 211??

Don't get your panties in a wad, I'm not in any way bashing Stihl, I own a couple. It just looks like to me that in some ways they improved the saws and in others, they went backwards.

    MS180 vs MS181....210 vs 211??

I did notice that the 171 and 181 are almost a pound heavier than their older counterparts and only have a single bar nut.

    75cc Shindiawa Vs. 75cc Husky

The more I think about what you said, the more I have to disagree. My 488 took a long time to break in which is indicative a tightly built engine not one that is built "loose" as you say. If Shindaiwa is known for nothing else, they are known for bullet-proof reliability which again couldn't...

    Problem with Stihl.

That was kind of what I was thinking.
