finally found a local dealer, and he sells both! very nice guy, sells from home. i have an appt today at 1pm so i was wondering if j reds are as good or better than the 5100 at the top of my list? the 2153 is very similar, yet has a bit less hp! the 2156 looks to be a tad heavier, but is about .5 hp more. just wanted you opinions on the jred in relation to the dolmar and wanna make the best choice.

Caveat: I've never run a 2156.

But I simply like the ergonomics better on the Jreds. I've run Dolmars only on brief occasions, and they feel uncomfortable to me, primarily because of that steeply angled front handlebar.

But that's strictly a personal preference with me...your mileage may vary. I'd say, among those choices...it would be hard to make a "bad" one.

Good luck, and let us know what you finally end up with.

p.s. Get the 2153...

.

Well my first question is what are they priced at? If that isn't a concern then get the one that feels the best in your hands. If the one that cost the least and feels the best get that one. All the specs on paper aren't going to help you out cutting all day long if you don't like the way that saw feels.

The weight specs on the 2156 are quite a bit off - the weight difference is larger than the specs tell you, and clearly notisable.

I'm not sure about all this talk of the 5100 "feeling" uncomfortable. Mine feels great, sounds awesome and cuts like it's possessed. I guess something has to be wrong with the 5100

All good choices. Buy the one you like best, but the only ones that should be compared are the 2153 and 5100. That subject has been beat to death if you search for it. The 2156 is much more expensive, but more of a saw.

Can't go wrong with any of the above, although some are better than others ;). We'll leave that for another day.

p.s. +1 buy the 2153!

ok so it is not fair to compare the 2156 with the 5100 or 2153? that being said than i gess what i want to know is. is the 5100 a bit stronger and faster since it has a bit more hp than the 2153? i have held both, and like the feel of either so i am just want to know what saw is more powerful, if at all,a nd how the motors will hold up in time.

I have always run JReds, so I would always go that route but they are both good saws. The deciding factor for me would be dealer support for either saw.

thanks. the dealer sells both so that is good, but i still can't decide. ugh.... gotta flip a coin. lol. oh well i was hoping 1 was noticebly more powerful so i could pick it, because everything thing else is basically a wash for me between them.

Tough Choice

From all the info on this site it's safe to assume that both the 5100 and 2153 are hot rods, pretty much head to head - and perform quite well - either will do fine.
It will be a decision you'll make on how they feel in your hands, it would be great if the dealer would let you run both.

This is a win/win/win situation. All are great saws (and good-looking to boot). Whichever saw he can price haggle with the most...buy that one. It's what I'd do.

ok, gotta find out aboutthat cat muffler. thanks for all the help over the last few weeks fellas. much appreciated. cheers, dan.

The coin flip is not going to decide weather you win or loose, just which way you're going to win.

Or buy both, and try them out, then decide to keep the Jonsered and I'll buy the 5100 from you since I can't get it here... ;)
