I looks as if I fell off the wagon this week. I had been doing a good job, it had been almost a month since the last saw purchase. Actually I bought two saws from the same guy almost a month ago, and one was a Homelite 240. I am ashamed to admit the 240, but it had a Log Wizard attached to the bar so I felt justified at the time.

The new, old saw is a 394xp / 395xp. I think it is the Hybrid model, :biggrinbounce2: . Some of the parts are 394 and some are 395. I am just not sure how much of if it is 394 or 395. I have named it Frank, short for Frank-n-saw. I am a$$-u-me-ing that it is mostly 394. The plate states that it is a 394 as does the starter housing. But the top plastic parts are 395 as noted by the top label. The idle screw and carb looks to be 394. I have yet to tear into it to do a cleaning. I am going to try and find some time today, Ha, Ha, to clean it up, we will see.

Can someone tell me the date of manufacture from the serial number? The starter housing was molded in May of 1994. I am just trying to put a date on the saw. Most of the 395 parts look to be 2001. The compression is 140 psi @ 5400 feet. For you flatland / lowland type that is about 165 to 170 psi sea level, that is, if I did my math right. The rim sprocket looks to be near new.

It starts up and accelerates great. It needs a new clutch brake band and a trigger safety release but other then that it is complete. Also needs little things like a new pull rope, spark plug, etc.

I will post pictures of the saw after I get it cleaned up. I am going to put a 20” bar with a new skip chain for the time being, but I am always looking for the longer bars. This one will keep the 395xp company in the shed when they are not working.

Any comments or recommendations (about the saw not my CAD problem) will be gladly reviewed and considered .

Thanks

Here is another question, not to get off topic on my own thread, but why am I showing the red "X" on some of the second post photos? All of the photos are 120 kb or less.

Here it is after a WD40 soaking sponge bath and a compressed air auto dry. It doesn't look much different then before, but it is minus almost 17 years of grime. I pulled the muffler and posted a couple photos of the piston and rings from the exhaust port. I am not going to pull the jug for the time being so we will have to continue wondering about "Madsen's Power Tuned" sticker. The air cleaner cover looks as if it is from a 395 anyway.

The chain brake handle has a manufacture date of 1995 so I know that it is not original. The gray cowling that covers the flywheel has a date of June 1992 so Sawtroll was correct on the manufacture date of the saw, not sure about a Monday though, I hope it was a Wednesday and not a Monday or Friday. This saw reminds me of Johnny Cash's song about the Cadillac that he built "one piece at a time, and it didn't cost me a dime", every piece is from a different year. But it runs well, it just needs a few minor parts.

Is it just me or does that ex port look like its been opened up? You should get the foot that goes under the front of the saw, to compensate for the big dogs, then you wont have to put a scrench under there.

I have both. The 394 carb is bolted right on, the 395 has a spacer. My 395 has 394 starter cover as well.
