While some are lucky at finding great saw deals, others are lucky at LOVE.

:)

Best deal I have gotten: I went to the Stihl dealer and asked how much, gave the man the money... Badda Boom Badda Bing ... ended up with a great saw.

not counting free or saws in lots.....

the 1-year oldish ms660 with fresh oem p/c and new 28" ES bar and rsc
for $450.00 from an AS member.

got short on $$$ and sold it for more than i paid and kept the bar and chain to boot.

wish i had it now.

I paid $100 bucks for this super clean 066 powerhead with no spark. Two working coils were included. I sent the saw to Brad for carb rebuild ,minor muffler mod and test and tune, another $100 so $200 ,still a great deal. I switched out in favor for my cannon bar and west coast cover/spikes from another 66 of mine
Now my favorite saw
cheers

Had a Homelite Super XL-925 given to me, like new, it cut a few cord of wood back in 1983. I had to replace a fuel line.
026 stihl given to me. Just had to clean up a downed tree in a widows yard, she told me to keep it, she couldn't use it anyways.

My best deal happened a month ago. I delivered firewood to a customer. He previously bought one of those 27 ton troy built wood splitters with the 5.5 HP Honda engines, and he and his wife decided it was too much work to run one, so he decided to just buy wood cut, split, and delivered.
i gave him 2 cord of firewood for it, he used it one fall. Paint was still on the wedge, and beam.
I feel very fortunate, as all of these deals have happened within the last 2 years. LIFE IS GOOD:greenchainsaw:

A 6 month old Domar 5100 with 4 chains, 18" bar and a powerbox storage container $135.

The mint 262 from Seattle's CL with all the manuals for $200. I still smile when I use the saw because it was like stealing the Space Needle from Seattle!

.

i bought a 044 a couple months back from another ex logger for $75. it looks old and dirty, it needed the clutch replaced and i was expecting the compression to be low and the carb to be worn out. lucky me it has reasonable good compression and the old thing runs very much like a new one would.

the irony is it now runs so well i hate to big-bore jug and piston it like i did the other one. it has the big wrist pin too!

i just hate to jug and piston one that really don't need it yet.

Don't change it--oem is better quality than big bores anyway.

I've got two best deals -
First, Setp3 2009
Stopped by Northern Tools, Richmond, Va. to get their chain sharpener (normally $120, on sale for $90). They had a $220 (marked in store price) Efco 3600 (http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200343004_2003430043600) marked down to $99.49 (that the salesperson said they had done because they were discontinuing them) which because it was under $100 was further discounted 50%.

So - a saw for 5 sawbucks.

I looked at it as a "toy saw", but then for $50, new, w/ chain, warranty, etc. it looks like a good "loaner" saw.

So check your local Northern Tools.

Now if I only could have gotten a new Solo 681 for $200 I'd be REAL happy.

Then three weeks later (Sep 26th) I won my John Deere CS62 here.

The Efco runs well and the CS62 mills well.

I'd have to say the best deal I've gotten on a saw was my Homelite 750 I got off of CL about six to eight weeks ago or so. I paid $100.00 plus shipping. Rebuilt the carb, new boot, spark plug, and a major cleaning. Runs and cuts like a dream. Oh, and I also added two NOS dogs to it as well. Best, Max.

Got a parts saw 660 on Ebay for $100. Sent it to my saw builder and about a week later he wanted $285 for the parts and porting. So for $385 I had a brand new looking 660 that was ported, muffler modded and looking just like new, and it screams.

It was a lot better than paying $1000 for a new one and then more for modd work.

Oh, I got an 880 that had about 6 long cuts on it, before it got its plastic all smashed. A Canadian buddy shipped it to me for free (I paid nothing for the saw at this point), and all I have to do is get the plastic replaced, the engine and everything else is in brand new shape, again it only had been started about 6x's. The saw builder is working on getting the parts lined out.

I also purchased a Husky 272XP for $125 off of CL. This saw was VERY VERY clean, just needed some carb adjustments. Sold that one for $450 bones.

I got my 028 WB for cutting a guy a load of wood. It was not very much wood either, a 5x8 trailer full. The saw runs and looks good just ended up having to put an oil gear on it.
