While we're on the topic.....the number 1 most abused grammatical error on the Arborist Forum is "a lot"

"allot" - Nope. That's not it.
"allott" - Nope. Not that either.
"alot" - Hmmm.....try again.

I specifically recall misspelling that one in eigth grade, one time. That's all it took. Thank you Miss Gebhart for pointing out that mistake for me (one time) when I was 13. (she had some really big knockers) I have not made that mistake since.

IMHO, most abused is the apostrophe to denote plural.
Example: You might have one thing, or two thing's. Pretty ignorant, but very common.
Then you have to/too, we're/were/where, ad nauseam.

Lots of school kids were obviously daydreaming or distracted by little Susie's whatever.

I've seen that before, wonder if it was a photoshop pic. I have a hard time believing that a boresighter, would do that. The boresighter would need to be in there so tight that the pressure could not push it out, and even if the barrel did split, it would not be that far, as soon as the pressure had an escape, the barrel would have stopped splitting.

There is also no burn marks on teh carpet, that would be there if a fireball did that...

Look at the end of the barrel strap at 6 o'clock. There is clearly a bulge that appears about 2.5 inches from the muzzle. That is the exact point where the bullet would impact the end of a bore sighter.

There's no predictability when it comes to a overpressure rupture. I think the photo speaks for itself. A millisecond extreme pressure spike can do some crazy things.

Actually, I think there is quite a bit of difference between the usage and spelling of words.

There are issues where the user doesn't understand where and how to use each word. And in those cases, by the time they are an adult, I seriously doubt they will ever figure it out.......and it's probably not worthwhile to even try.

However, in the case of "a lot", all those other spellings are simply not words. The meaning is the same. The spelling is just wrong.
I may be overly optimistic, but I think that can be fixed. Seriously....one word has one letter and the other has three, separated by a space. Words like that don't usually come up in a spelling bee.

Here is a saw related boo-boo that irks me. :msp_mad: Most often seen on E-Bay or Craigslist, but, on this site as well. People will call this, or mis-read (is that a word?) LOL, the label on this saw as a Poulan Super 250 A. When it is clearly a Super 25 DA.:msp_mad: I guess most have never seen a cursive capital D.

I'll add cord/chord to the irksome list. You should see the airline pilots who write up a tire showing "chord." The word chord does have a place on airplanes, but it has to do with the design of the wing. There is, however, no place for chord on a saw unless your saw plays music.
