Found this site, picked up a used 044 for cheap, got a little Homelite xl2 and poulan for $7 for both at a swap meet, and now an 028. I'd say that's pretty good for only a few months.

The neighbors talked me into the saw repair nonsense. I blame the collecting business on Mr Bowsaw. You see I got this MAC Super 250 that needed a new carb. Cliff offered to help me out, but then he sent a carb with another mostly complete 250 attached to it. Couldn't let it go to waste, and the madness started....

My Grandfather passed away, and while cleaning out the garage I got his 3 old Remington saws. Mighty Mite, PL-4, and Supper 990. Searched the net for hours until I found this site, and the only information available on Remington saws. Started going to public sales, yard sales, and watching craigslist. It was all downhill from there. That was a little under a year ago, and I'm already 25+ saws (including a Diston 2man). I think I got bit by the bug.

Mine addiction started when my dad handed me a Non-running remington PL-55a and said, "Here, get this running so you can help me cut firewood"...then I found this site so I could figure out how to fix it and thats all she wrote....Now Im up to my chin in saws. Thanks arboristsite!! LOL:msp_tongue:

I started with an electric chainsaw many years ago and it was so much faster than the manual bow saw! But then I ran out of things to cut in my 100ft power cord radius... After that I got a good deal on some saws from a tree service company going out of business and from that day I have had a bad case of CAD, oh and AS didn't help either :msp_ohmy:

I think I have finally reached my saw 'quota' as I was running out of room at one stage. Trying to keep the saw numbers steady by selling one then buying one... well thats the idea anyways :msp_biggrin:

I was running a cheap box store piece o crap ,as my first new saw, had many small issues with it. Searched for a better quality or "real" saw found this site and was exposed to tales of saw users who actually had their saw perform as intended, and they actually accomplished their planned tasks without surprises.
Acquired a old jonsered that I just assumed was on its last legs, since it was over 25 years old. Started the hunt for a good back up saw since I thought I desperately needed one. Well after establishing a couple of back up saws, I shifted to spanning the the weight classes and diversified into the 40cc, 50cc, 60cc classes.

The kicker is my first jonsered is still my favorite saw to run and has plenty of life left even after another five years use, and my back up makita wishes for more action.

Once you fine tune your " saw acquisition awareness " you can't seem to turn it off, and the saws find you...:msp_unsure:

I bought an old Pioneer farmsaw at a flee market, which I still can't get running to this day. I found this site and began to ask questions and explore, and within three monthes I bought a Stihl ms 391. I've always been the kind of person who thinks if big is good, then bigger must be better so before long I bought a Stihl 440. It was all down hill from there, just recently I bought two 056 magnums that I plan to restore. My wife thinks I'm crazy, and theres just no way to explain why these things facinate me. But it all started with Arborist site.

coming back to first love

I started out as a teenager building "basket case" chainsaws, cutting a few cords of wood with them and then turning them around and selling them to get more saws. This was the days of the Mac 4-30's and Homelite zips etc.. I grew up joined the military, was sent to Germany and while there in the late 70's early 80's I was sent to Stihl school in Stuttgart. I continued on with my career and eventually retired in 98. At that time I became self-employed and had an auto repair shop for a few years until back trouble took me out of it. A few years ago a friend brought me an 041 to see if I could fix that was his dads who passed away a few years earlier. He had taken it to the local Stihl dealer only to be told it had no life left in it and he should buy a new one. After looking it over I found that the only real problem it had (other than being a dirty pig) was a collapsed fuel line in the tank. Once i FIXED IT i REALIZED HOW MUCH i MISSED BEING A MECHANIC AND REALLY MISSED SAWS!! So I started looking on eBay for bargains and came up with my first saw a Stihl 041avseq! I now own over 40 saws most of which are Stihl's, but have a few choice Echo's, Mac's, Homelites and even a Poulan 306 super. One of my favorites is my MS 660 with a big bore kit in it and a 32" bar with a skip chisel chain. I now find that there is always someone trying to gift me with saws since they know I'm into them, kind of makes you feel sad doesn't it? All these unwanted saws lying around with no one to care for them?

Bought my first saw just to help my dad cut wood at the farm. Then I figured there has to be a way to modify this thing. searched chainsaw mods. Thanks to google this here arboristsite popped up. Figured it might have some info I could use. Oh boy did it ever. I've now aquired a few more saws and am trying to stretch the checkbook to buy more. :msp_biggrin: I'd still be a one saw man if I hadn't found this place my wife calls "his chainsaw facebook".

Fixed my dads (now mine) MAC 3516 AV from the early 90's. Has some sentimental value as I watched him take down a bunch of trees in my yard and my uncles at the time. I was prob around 10 or so. I couldnt see it go in the garbage so i tore it down and replaced the fuel lines etc last fall. Found this site in the process and now im a mini mac fanatic....mostly because i like small saws and the McCulloch brand and partly because I like being told I cant do something and then do it anyway.

Saw troll made me look at my 290 and realize its slow ..heavy..and handles like sh*t..and a 346 was a must have saw..all down hill from there :hmm3grin2orange:

We need to stop him from converting folks to the dark-side... :msp_sneaky: Hurry, come back the the light {grey} side.

I know what you mean. My 7-10 is actually my dad's old saw and I am rather fond of my mini mac 1, mini mac 6, and various 110's and 130's. They are actually quite easy to work on once you get the hang of them. I just had a Stihl 015av gifted to me this week and I plan on working on it in just a few hours :)
