Purchased a MS 441 CM recently and dealer stated emphatically that purchasing the extra oil / fuel to extend the warranty does NOT apply to their pro equipment, even if purchased for non commercial use. Any truth to this? The dealer otherwise has a good reputation in the area and seems to know their stuff.

I bought a new 362 this year and the dealer suggested I buy the oil to extend it.

I went ahead and called Stihl and they stated that my dealer was correct. On certain equipment, buying the oil/fuel does not extend the warranty. Oh well.

We do it at our dealership and haven't had one warranty kicked back or one claim refused, guess it's time to get off here and get on the phone, been doing it for several years.

I bought a 441RCM first of the year and the dealer gave me the extended warranty. The way I took it is as long as it is for non commercial use, then you should get the extended warranty if you buy the oil. If it is for commercial use, then you don't get the extended warranty.

You said on certain equipment, they do not offer the warranty. Well I bought the same saw and got the extended warranty. I think somebody is pulling your leg.

Maybe this is a region thing or some dealers just decide not to give the extended warranty. The company offers the warranty and not the dealer, right? If so then it shouldn't matter where you buy it from.

Double Warranty Coverage Program
For all STIHL gasoline powered chain saws and power tools (with the exception of STIHL TS cut-off machine
and GS 461 concrete cutter models) sold after January 1, 2011 that are used for personal non-income producing
family or household purposes; the standard warranty coverage period will be doubled if the original consumer
purchases a 6-pack of STIHL HP Ultra 2-cycle engine oil (any size containers) or six 32 ounce cans of STIHL
MotoMix® pre-mixed fuel at the time the machine is purchased.
The double warranty coverage also applies to the machine’s respective attachments if the attachments are
purchased as an integral part of the machine at the same time the machine is purchased (i.e. guide bar, saw
chain, KM attachments). Double warranty coverage does not apply for any attachments purchased at a later
date.
The consumer’s invoice must reflect the STIHL HP Ultra oil purchase or the STIHL MotoMix® pre-mixed fuel
purchase and machine purchase along with the machine’s serial number. The product registration must have the
oil or fuel purchase indicated on the registration form or the oil or fuel purchase selected in the STIHL eService
product registration record. The consumer should retain a copy of the original sales invoice for the length of the
warranty time period as proof of purchase. STIHL Incorporated reserves the right to request a copy of the invoice
to verify warranty coverage in the event a warranty repair is made to the machine.
Double warranty coverage does not apply for non-gasoline powered products, all STIHL TS cut-off machine
models or products used for profit or non-profit organizational, commercial, professional, rental or income
producing purposes. The double warranty coverage applies to the original purchaser only and is nontransferable.
Refer to the STIHL Incorporated Limited Warranty Policy for details and exclusions.

An MS441C-M has a standard warranty of 1 year in homeowner use. Two years if you buy the oil. Your dealer is wrong, unless something has changed that many of us don't know about.

My understanding as well.

When I picked up my MS362 Arctic recently, with the extra six pack of oil, I asked about the warranty. The dealer specifically registered it as "non commercial" use, and I received the extended / double the warranty period from Stihl.

Take Care

I noticed out the door price can mean no sales tax with the agricultural exemption on this forum.

So If I have a Deere dealer with my tax exempt purchase history I will get less warranty than If I go the hardware store Stihl dealer where I have always paid sales tax? I use my real name in either case.

I would think..??.. that by using the agriculture exemption it would classify you as 'commercial'...and thus not allow the extended warranty..??

I personally would rather pay the tax and get the extended warranty than NOT pay the tax and just get the regular warranty...but that's just me.

we got the tax exempt on a couple zero turn mowers for are farm and the dealer still marked us as non commercial use for the warranty, seems like the dealers have the say. i would say as long as your not growing trees it would be non commercial.

Not changing dealers over this but I am going to bring it up to them. They're awesome otherwise and have been in our neighborhood for almost 40yrs. I'll talk with the owner on thursday. Thanks for the feedback guys.

I just bought an MS362 and the dealer doubled my warranty when I bought the 6 pack of Ultra oil.
