This guys just as bad. Tap tap tap, and then he files a ball of dross. Ugh.... Grind that crap off first!

I've always considered reindeer to be one of the good guys, but now that I've heard his voice, and know he's a fellow redneck, and not some sort of furry foreigner.......I consider him to be one of the goodest guys!

Oh, and mdavlee (who's nearly as manly as I am), sharpens a mean ass chain FYI

Kindness to animals is one great virtue. See guys awareness of the well-being of our canine companions can be promoted at any time, in the most odd places and for any reason. It's cold out make sure your pup has shelter, plenty of extra food, water that's not frozen and straw.

my goat gets his water tub broken often, and plenty of hay :) my dogs are tiny inside dogs :)

There's no doubt mdavlee can wipe off the glint. lol That's how I knew the maker of the vid was under the wrong impression. He should get him a grinder and read the instructions.

is this guy supposed to know what he's doing and making a joke or is he a complete burn out idiot. i heard him say he ran square back in OR and WA. one thing's for sure, this guy doesn't know how to file a chain!!! did anyone else notice that he removed the vid off youtube now? probably a member here who saw this thread. it's scary what some people think is the right way. i've seen guys who apparently file the best of the best chains by hand but then file a chain this exact way. hack saw method is the only way to describe it.

It might just be me, but I never thought about storing a chainsaw under the couch.

I'm sure my wife wouldn't mind at all.

Mine doesn't even like our carpet, and she'd use the saw on my nuts if I did that.

Files aren't designed to go backwards, chainsaw file teeth are tiny, very hard and brittle. Dragging a chainsaw file backwards is one of the best ways to knock off the points of all the teeth.

If it works then I guess its all good but I've had workmates destroy my brand new files because of filing like that

For someone so new, Overclock seems to be able to cause quite a stir... And it looks like his post count is gonna hit a thousand in the next couple of days. Maybe there isn't enough wood to cut or saws to work on in his garage?

Just another case of a newbie arriving and disrespecting long standing members. Common place on AS in the last 6 months. Just sit back, acclimatise, introduce yourself, then start hitting the keyboard...

I've made the videos private on my vimeo account. They were originally for some friends that wanted to know how I did it.

Thanks for the support of those that know me. Yes, I am a redneck, and I have spent years sawing in the woods in Washington and Oregon.

I'll just say one more thing. The 444SE I put up won first place in the last PNW GTG with my chain. When Overdose can say he has a first place GTG saw, anywhere, let alone the PNW, then he can come up to me and tell me how to file. Until then, he's on ignore, and the others I will just simply not bother responding to.

Putting videos up on the internet is such a ridiculous process nowadays. You have armchair idiots that immediately start tearing it apart, or just plainly make rude comments. I can see how Randy occasionally just fumes and claims he's gonna give it up entirely. I don't blame him. It's not worth the hassle. So, yeah - those vids are on my private vimeo account now.

Here's the last bowie knife I made - it was for my brother. When I moved to Ireland, I retired form knife making:

That thing took nearly two weeks to make. I just don't have that sort of patience any more. And you just do not make much money doing it. But, basically, don't tell this man how to use a file. He's quite good at it.

This man is now semi retired, and works as the Woodsman on the De La Poer Estate in Waterford. This is the image I recently uploaded to my forestry thread. All the forest you see in the background belongs to the estate, and is managed by me. This is Beech, which isn't easy on chains, and the chain was plenty sharp long after I had this tree on the ground.

reindeer,
don't go to the trouble .......... that's all you will get
Those that have interacted with you know the truth, and we all know brush ape (or whatever sign on name he could think of ), so you shouldn't ever feel the need to put up such personal stuff, but VERY nice pictures (as allways) !!!!!

I would take a vacation just to work in those woods !!!

You can always address me toe to toe. Don't put on the air.

The long-standing members should honor the responsibility to show correct chain sharpening on youtube especially if they quote even more long-standing members. I know you wouldn't hacksaw your file down to nothing. Its clear the kid doesn't know what he's doing read the replies.

I questioned it myself if it was a joke five fundamental mistakes in the technique.

Publicly accessible videos on the internet do draw the crabs. I've hung in there but many times I've thought about blocking all comments and making the links private.

See now, something good can always be made out of even the grimmest circumstance. Why would anyone want to shut down the dialogue? Those are terrible thoughts. The purpose of an internet forum is to function as an open floor for discussion. When someone corrupts its purpose with agenda or supposition, intentionally withholds information or attempts to stifle and discredit an opposing viewpoint, it loses its validity. We've stayed clear of that in the U.S. for some time or at least we have tried. On the boards though it happens everyday.

If your perspective is valid and your technique sound, you have nothing to fear from, "Joe Everyday." Practice makes perfect. We are the State of the Art....period. With the credentials some of you bring to the table, an armchair lumberjack shouldn't be able to phase you. They don't affect me that's for sure. lol

"Overdose," thanks Hacksaw, I like that. It fits. Where intensity meets passion and is infused with awareness on the quest for excellence, I do overdose on enthusiasm and bombast, no doubt.:)

I'm not going to bother telling you how to file. A first place GTG saw?

lol
