The new saw bug has bitten, and I'm about to scratch it

I can't tell if that's completely sarcastic or not lol I have nooooo need for an 880, but if I had one, don't think I wouldn't put a 16" bar on it and try to make it lol

I think the point you were making is I don't need another saw with what I already have.

And then some of us do have 16” bars for their ported 084........

And I know there are some in NY and Down Under........I sent them there.

I would go with the 261. At a later date if you need to add a 25” saw to your stable for bigger wood you will have a great pro saw to start your 2 saw plan. Then you can keep adding and adding saws until you are institutionalized for CAD

Id push towards the 241 with a 14" for lightness and a nice all rounder, personally I can't see the point of long bars when a 14" can cut upto 28" with a skilled user. I have my 660 with a 30" when I need it (rarely )

I don't cut any firewood for myself. I cut firewood for others, firewood to sell, clean up downed trees, and drop trees that people want rid of (cleaning lots, reclaiming yards etc).

The reason I wrote off the 251,is because it weighs more than the 250,with the same power. Someone want to fill me in on why the 251 is an "improved" 250?
The 251 is improved because of the clean air index it gets. It is supposed to use less fuel so after 10 minutes of similar use the diffirential might not be the same as when full of fluids at the start. If you are that weight conscious get it equipped with picco class chain at delivery. I typed out the differences in another thread. I kind of doubt you will end up buying a new one so will not type further. There is stuff already typed in on here.

Of the pro saws listed.......the 261 is the bees knees. With quad porting it is all over its predecessor the 026/260. And lighter. But the 241 is lighter still......

Buy both the pro saws and you can’t go wrong!!!!

A lot of us have way too many saws but for me the 241 would be the way to go here, its a very capable small saw and that would fill most cutting needs until the 360 has to be pulled out for larger cuts. The 261 is just an all around useful saw and could cut most stuff a 360 is used for. Being old school I take my ported 026`s with me every day and a MS360 or the 362 now more than the 360 but most cutting is still done with a 026 with a 18" or 20" .325 chisel chain.

Oh Jerry."......logic went out the window several posts ago.

Has nothing to do with being weight conscious. When you have 2 saws so similar, it makes sense to take the lighter one. I'm also not fuel conscious either.

The bigger question is, why the smart ass response? What does me asking why the 251 is improved over a 250 make you suddenly think I'm not even going to buy a saw? I came here to gather as much information as possible about my options.

I thank those of you who have been so helpful. We got hit with snow and ice last night, so today I'm spending time with my son. I'll update you guys when I make my trip to the dealer.

Oh Rob, I know, its a whole lot more difficult to stay logical when one owns the number of saws we do but try to remember when you only had one or two saws before CAD set in.

I remember when, I had one saw, then someone here posted a link to cheap 38cc Earthquakes, seemed logical to give one a try. Then a link to cheap 45cc Earthquakes and it did logically fall between the two saws that I had. I happened upon a Dolmar for $20 and I had heard they were good saws so it seemed logical to me to grab it. I realized that they are in fact good saws, so when I saw a "rare" black and silver at a reasonable price, logic said grab it. I haven't found out how many saws I have to have before it becomes ill logical. :happybanana:

Sell both MS180's and the MS390 and get the MS241, preferably the M-tronic version and resist the urge of modifying it or fitting an impossibly long bar.
Unless you need a top handle for pruning or similar odd jobs, the MS360 and the MS241 will cover over 95% of what even a serious firewood cutter needs.

I think you mis understood what I thought or suppose you will not buy. The other thread seemed to involve a used 251 you were curious about. This thread is about a new saw. Do not get the idea I have any preconceived notions about whether you will buy a new saw or not. Might as well buy new especially if it is a Sthl as you can not point and click to buy parts and accessories.

I'm sorry I misunderstood you. You have my apologies sir.

I talked to my best local dealer this morning. He said he'd let me have the MS241 for $440 with a case, but they'd have to order it, he doesn't have one there. He does have the Ms250, it's $325 with an 18" bar, and a 251 Wood Boss for $310 with the 18" bar.

Seems hard to not go with the 241,when it lists for $519.
