Lots of walking. Brush covered piles. Bigger wood is below. Now they burned everything. Some of the burn files I guess you would call it didn't really catch very well in some of them did. Most of the stuff is fairly close to the road but I don't know if you can really call the road and some of these spots until they did their burning nobody was going up here to even get this would because it was too much of a pain in the butt

I've been cutting on a neighbors property here and there this summer..

I can back my truck into the fence line but the line is 500 to 600 feet long and 100 feet deep. Its overgrown and treacherous to walk in.

I was dragging my 038 mag with a 25" bar in there for quite awhile.

The saw mows through the trees fast but I find it gets heavier and heavier as the day goes by. It's also not a very limber limbing saw.

After the 2nd or 3rd time I went there to cut I pulled out a strong running ms260 that I have.

I cut all day with that saw and didnt get tired like I do with the big ol pig magnum.. 038 is faster but not by much as I get tired and slow as the day progresses.

I just picked up 2 60cc class saws to try for firewood scavenging. A 257 and a 562xp.

The 257 is ok so far but it vibes a lot and is quite a bit heavier then my 260s.

The 562xp once running will probably end up being my go to saw for getting wood out of the Bush.

Once out the 038 will be used to block it up.

If you have to walk in to do your cutting, how do you get the logs out?

If I’m walking around with plans to do some cutting, I’d likely be building a campfire where I cut. Or was just cutting to clear a trail.
In this case, the old Stihl 009L is about ideal.

If driving in, the bigger, newer, rear handled saws would get the nod.

At home I cut a path where I want to log and skid the logs out with my skidsteer.

On the property I've been cutting at my neighbor wants most of the tree line to stay so sometimes I have to hike in and out with wood.

I'm young and work construction so the jumping in and out with logs is good exercise for me and I dont mind it.

I cut for fun and only do like 6-8 cord and year so production isnt my strong point..

I was doing the same thing you were doing that 038 gets heavy real fast.
I put a smaller 20 inch bar on the 372xp and used that for a while but I felt like the weight balance was kind of goofy

Lol did you even look at OP's lineup? Or read his message?
Lol. I was more asking just to see what the different things you guys were using I wasn't really looking for too many suggestions but I get a kick out of some of the responses especially the poulan Wild Thing.
If I do get another saw it's probably going to be some kind of husky

AH! A skidsteer!...I think I need one of those.:surprised3:

But hiking out with a sack full of logs is not something I’d like to try.

I'll get firewood with just about anything. This year it's been an 023, ms170, 357xp, 2156, 036, 026, 372xt, 2171, 2172, 2166, 365, 5100s, 5105, 445, 450, 345, 350, 550xp, 2153. I think that's about all. The most fun was a Mac 10-10s but after one load my hands, ears, and the fillings in my teeth all needed a break.

If you get a short bar and a .325 setup on the 111 it will change your world

Is that your lightest PH? If the acres site is correct, that saw is light, even by current 50cc standards. You are doing it no justice by making it heavier and unwieldy.

Make it a little lighter and more compact and it will be what it’s supposed to be.

Only in America (and BC) do folks put oversized bars (and dawgs) on every saw they own.

Big dawgs have a place, but certainly not on my Dolly 5105. I fixed that a few days ago..those stupid things were ridiculous.

Well, I have a 112 dolmar and it only gets used except around home because of the weight.
I also have in huskys that run a 44,50,51,55,455,257,359,61 and 162.
Also have jonesred 49sp, and a pioneer 500.
I almost forgot the old homelite 150 automatics(2) and the xl12.
Out of all my 50-60 cc saws the one that I end up cutting the type of wood shown is my 55 with a 20" bar and 050 3/8 chain.
That being said any good running saw in that size range works well.
The old homelite 150 autos work well with a 16-18" 3/8 bar/chain and are fairly light and a much under rated saw as well.
