Winter isn’t a very good indicator of things (at least not for me). Have to wait and see how things are going in the middle of this year to really tell.

I think in general it’s just a crappy business to be in. Too much ******** to go through just to try and make something sustainable out of it.

My advice to any new guys trying thinking about getting into it would “run, run while you still can… and never look back”.

Maybe open a laundromat… a package store.. strip bar, hotdog stand.. anything but this pinhead occupation!
hmm, im averaging 3 days a week with zero advertising, plenty busy and plenty of money

And as tough / ****** of a business the tree biz is, it’s also a great industry to be in. The trees are only

you have to realize , what takes you three days is probably a days worth of work for an established tree service.

3 days a week, 3-5 jobs a week that is
and, gonna call you out on your ******** real quick, since you have never worked with me, you have no clue what my process is and how fast we work
we only have 3 guys on a big job, plus crane operator, ZERO overhead, and nobody here cares how fast a job goes
hell, 90% of my jobs im done by 4pm, unless its time for the 881 to come out or im doing 30+ trees its a day job so get over it

What kind of chipper are you running ? And other equipment ?

What kind of chipper are you running ? And other equipment ?
bandit 250xp 12" with 115hp cummins
boxer 526DX with 56" BMG grapple
c7500 topkick 60' bucket truck with 14 yard chip box
GRCS when needed, also 30 ton crane on call when needed
2500 ram to tow 14ft dump trailer
stump guy comes with an SC292 and is also my ground guy on weekends when he isnt doing his full time job
we show up with both trucks, trailer and chipper to 75% of the jobs we do, 3 man crew

I use to run a 12 inch chipper and had smaller skid steer like yours. I upgraded both of them. Production has more than doubled. You may be a talented tree guy but your equipment is JV.

im going to get an SK1550 or CTX 160 in a year or two, and probably like an 1890XP, but after I upgrade my bucket truck to a newer model, or go without a bucket entirely, and get a 82HD

the only thing that would make us work that much faster on the jobs we do would be a 75-110ton crane, currently all my picks have to be under 3000 pounds due to line pull on the crane I use

My payment situation is personal.
You need a bigger chipper
You need a bigger mini
You need a taller bucket / lift
And you also need a chip truck
Forestry bucket trucks are useless for residential tree work. You need a 75 rear mount or a lift.
This goes back to what I just said, there’s no way your production is the same as an established tree company based solely on your equipment. It’s nothing personal , I know companies that will do in a morning what will take me two days. But what I’m saying is that your weekly work load would be cut in half at least. So you may not be as busy / profitable as you think.

even a 75ft rear mount cant reach 80+% of the trees we do, nowhere to park it on these tight jobs, which is why I get these jobs since im the only tree service around here capable of doing them, and I price accordingly
there is a very slim chance a spider lift would help, when I bought my bucket truck I was only buying it for the chip box, the boom is just an extra for the oddball jobs its good for
