You do know that your 660 has plenty of power for cottonwood, which is very weak. Even with that big of a bar the 660 will have no trouble in that stuff. Its just like willow

My 660 does very well, I just have a bad case of wants ya know? I do feel a little guilty running the guts outa the 660 for hours at a time, but it does seem to get better each time that it is ran, it now has 15 gal of gas through it. The 084 sounds very interesting, I like the oiler feature a bunch! I am a thinking that might be the way to go, but the smell of a new saw..... oh baby.

I have two 084's, an earlier one and a later one. My earlier one has the ht1 carb and non limited 3 legged coil, and it has yet to be beaten by a stock 880 or 088. I know that I probably just haven't met the right 880 yet, but thus far this has been the case. My later 084 at first seemed like a dog (especially with a new piston and cylinder), but when I looked into it I found that I had the right coil, but a later ht7 limited carb. This is being rectified as we type. Also I like the oiler overide on long bars as well. 084=one bad momma:cheers:

Hi Hoss......:) :)

Hey Ultra how's the whisky today? Sippin on a little Knob Creek myself. Thanks for the heads up on the coil, I had read that, but had not thought to look. Tha saw was tach'in out at 10,000 so I knew somethin was different from my first one.

How do you tell what kind of carb it has? ht1 or ht7? DO they look different?

Limited carb???

Limited carb???

Yeah limited carb. I hadn't heard about it either, but when I was over at Tommys shop, we were tring to get it tuned to match the big muffler port job that it had and we couldnt seem to get the top end right so Tommy made a call (stihl atlantic maybe?), anyway the tech on the other end said that the saw had a limiting carb where the high needle would not completely seat even when screwed all the way in, thus not allowing the saw to be leaned out too far. The saw was taching out at 10,000 (didn't sound right either) wide open no matter what we did and my first 084 runs a comfortable 12,000 plus. Anyway it already had the non-limitrd coil on it so the carb was about the only other thing we could think of. The filter was clean by the way.

I believe he means that the needle only adjusts a % of the H flow, and the rest is via a fixed jet - like most stihl carbs for the past 10+ years! Just change the fixed jet...

You are probably right Lake, but I already have an HT1 with a fresh rebuild kit in it so the original carb will be a backup now I guess.

I think it would be really fun to have a get together and run and compare bunches of stock big saws. 084s, 088s, 3120s , 090 and some other older monsters. Would be a gas to run them one after another in some wood, like 40 inches or bigger.

That would be a fun day, and there would be a whole lot of shavings on the ground afterwards.

Hmm... I'm wrong.. The HT doesn't have removable jets. I was confused with the 088 carbs.

I'll look into the differences between the HT7 and 1 etc. I've never had an HT7 that I couldn't lean out..

I went with a used but in good shape 088 because of the non-limited coil and fill caps. If I went with an 880 I would have had to purchase an 088 coil (required by EHP for a woods port). Plus the new caps on the 880 sux.

Have you run you 088 and 3120 back to back in big wood?
