Has anyone dealt with ebay bidders from outside the US. My auction is ending soon and I've had a couple people bid from outside the country. It says in the auction that I ship only to the US unless they contact first and pay actual shipping.

However I've still had people bid anyway, one from Sweden, another from Germany. I checked UPS and it appears that it would cost around $400+ to ship a saw overseas. I suspect these people don't speak English and can't even read the description or even find the link w pics/videos.

Should I just cancel these bids? What has been your experience.

Thanks for the help

I've shipped many saws out of the country, to pretty much every country in the world except for a few African countries (I did ship a Stihl polesaw attachment to South Africa.) I've found shipping to be pretty reasonable for the most part with U.S.P.S. global priority. Your $400 figure sounds way high to me for most countries. The last 066 I shipped to France only cost $118 and the 394 I just shipped to Austria only cost $129. I just shipped a MS-260 to a member in Australia and it was $146.

Thanks. I had a guy that wanted it shipped to a small town in Sweden and the UPS online calculator quoted me $415 even for a box alittle smaller than what the saw fits in. I'll just stick with USPS.

I just worry that if they don't speak English they won't know what I'm talking about when I try to explain the actual shipping cost. Also worry that they can't even read the description or view the other pics.

Will ebay still charge me the final selling fee if the buyer backs out?

if the overseas winner wont pay the USPS rate thats qouted then just sell it to the next highest bidder.

its your saw and your auction.

in fact, if winner wont pay you can sell to any bidder after that point.

example, second bid is overseas and third bid is US buyer and bid was only 5 dollars less. You can choose who to send second chance offer to.

forget about UPS.

Yes, but you can recover it. They wont reimburse you for having to relist the saw though.

Of course this is true with anyone - you never know if your buyer is legit (or smart enough to read the description) - regardless of where they call home. ;)

There is a seller function that will make it so no bidders registared outside the USA can bid, It save alot of hassles. I was getting fed up with people bidding then expecting you to ship outside the usa. Just check the help section on ebay and it will let you change your settings.

I do not think that you have to worry about people not speaking or understanding english. Most people in scandanavia and germany start to learn english in primary school and they look for saws in the US because they are much cheaper,

I live in Norway and I use ebay and US webshops quite a bit. First Class International Priority is my choise as it delivers quickly and is by far the cheapest I've found.

I ordered a very special set of sunglasses from the US and ended up paying $30 in shipping (FedEx). (OK, I had the sunglasses delivered to my door here in Norway in under 4 days, but still..)

As noted above, English is required learning in primary school, but how people choose to use their learning it is very up-and-down.

I live in Norway to and i use a shipping company called Jetcarrier ,they have an address in New Jersey that i address the saws and parts i bye to and everything get shipped from there and over to Norway and Sweden maybe Denmark to.Many times i have found saws that i will like bye on E-bay but the seller don't thrust me because i live so far away. But i have got parts sent from nice members here on AS they have had no problem sending overseas.

DON'T DO IT !

You know that all of us outside the US are socialist, commie pinko's that believe in free love, walk around half naked half the time and are waiting for any opportunity to take you down.
Whoever you ship it to will be a tree lover that will have your return address so that they can directly vent their frustrations against the American Imperialist capitalist swine.

I wouldn't risk it.

Oh, and we have better beer too. :D

UPS and Fedex are no good for international shipping. Use USPS and you'll get a much cheaper rate.

JJ,

I agree on one saw but on many saws USPS cannot ship them. I have a crate of saws here that will be 500lbs and it is headed to Europe. It will be be sent UPS SCS. Now if I was sending anything under 70lbs then yes indeed USPS Priority is the best.

i agree with the sentiment that usps and priority seems to be much cheaper for international postage.. i order from US ebay and some of the site sponsors here but i do always make a point of contacting a us ebay seller to ask if hed be willing to ship to UK if he hasnt already specified on his listing. Generally most are happy to do so apart from 2 exceptions the famous sugihara distributor absolutely refuses to ship out of usa (its his perrogative i grudgingly respect that) and another seller who was willing to ship me a newoldstock Walbro wt326 (the fixed jet carb for 020T) but couldnt seem to bring postage down any lower than $55 for a carb not much bigger than a matchbox. Despite really wanting this carb i couldnt bring myself to pay the postage.

If i were the OP and i was uneasy at the prospect of shipping your saw outside the US id def cancel the bids, perhaps contact the bidders for confirmation first i dont know. If they cant understand english as you suspect it will do no good other than show you tried to communicate.- But for sure you dont want to be swept away by outcome of auction perhaps sending a valuable saw far abroad with a sense of uneasiness in your heart just waiting for some sort of dispute claim. Hope it works out well for you
Andrew
