Interesting, So black walnut splits good and has straight grain. For some reason I thought black walnut was harder splitting.

It might have been valuable before it was cut into 16” rounds. After that, it really is not a great firewood. It burns, but there is much better stuff out there.
You burn what you gotz. Have a whole load of tops after a logging job. Gotta let it season well. Does ok job early and late season fires.

The best walnut tree is the one on the ground I have a few small ones around my house and what a fn mess they make. Had a bumper crop of nuts this year. And the tree grows like a weed. Everytime I prune them I breakout in rashes. Something called juglone causes skin irritation and chemical burns. Best time to cut is in winter I was reading.
