Just bought an MS 661. A friend recommended 40/1, saying 50/1 is for emission standards. Will 40/1 mess with the auto tune?
Nope just cut lots of wood it will adjust. Buried in long cuts seem to work well for resetting the AT.

You could void your warranty though.
Warranty exclusions.
"9. Repairs made necessary due to improper oil mix ratios or the use of mix oils and other lubricants not specified in the
product’s instruction manual."

I would think the oil mix North of 50/1 would be more likely to void the warranty than a south of 50 mix + I'm pretty sure even a factory tech cannot tell the difference "tween 40 & 50 mix with out sophisticated test equipment after all it's only 5 mili litres & there's a 1000 of them in a litre + if it gets sent back for checking it would have been drained down anyway. I would think lack of rather than a tiny amount to much oil would ring the warranty alarm bells

They only say 50:1 , anything else above or below that magic number voids the warranty, the less ammunition you give them to not fix something the better, who wants to get into a fight with stihl who holds all the aces in the deck when it comes to coming good with fixing a saw under warranty.
Once the warranty has expired you can do what you please.

Warranty...come on, what does a saw cost?! If there is a benefit to more oil than 50:1 provides, then shouldn't you be running it from day 1? And if there isn't...

40:1 is fine. 32:1 is fine. 50:1 is probably fine, too, under optimal conditions.
We run husky 3120XP saws in the commercial operation, we have a friend who tests engines for racing cars ( Single seat open wheel & sports Le Mans type cars) he tested one of the saws on their Dyno, for a uni project in standard run in form it produced 8. 36 HP with the factory recommended oil fuel mix increasing the oil content 40, 32, 25,& eventually down to 18/1 produced an extra 1/2 HP + an extra 550 revs but ended up with a tendantsy to foul the plug unless it was not allowed to idle, in the field we use 32/1 & have done for a number of years with no adverse effects This is just our findings but all the noted 2 Smoke "Tuners" seem to agree to the fact that the more oil within reason you pour in the harder/more powerful it will run

The difference is like. .4 ounces between 40 and 50:1 in a gallon. Even doing 50:1 are you certain you have exactly 1 gallon of gas. It is easier to have too much gas and be lean at 50:1 and that would be voided warranty. 40:1 gives you a little more cushion for error such as 1.1 gallons.
