Was at Home Depot and they had two used DCS6421 for sale. They want $322 plus tax. The sales man started one but I think the other was cleaner looking. I would say it runs too. What to do?!

Edit: What is the 7901 P+C running right now?

Stock tune box store saw used and retuned. Prolly broke inn to lean or piss rev cold. Still sounds spendy

This HD does do tool rental. It is a former tool rental saw. IDK about lean, good point though. But the one the sales man started was smoking a little. Could have been cause he pulled a couple to many times and realized that he had the choke on the wrong setting.

Check the saw as thoroughly as possible, start and run her, if possible put her into some wood.
I'd take one for 300ish if it checked out good, but they go for a bit higher here in Europe to begin with.

These saws will generate smoke as long as they are cold even with proper tune and mix, mine sure do!

OEM P&C (conversion kit) list price from @fordf150 :

AM BB is all over the place price and quality wise thus only an option if You know what to pay attention to prior to installation.

Good luck with Your purchase if You decide to go ahead with one!

It wasn't a lot of smoke but I am not used to stock saws smoking. What I really need to do is get of my lazy but and rebuild my Craftsman 3.7. I am trying to be lazy about it and I am not going to let my self do that. If I can't take care of the saws I have, I don't need any more. I won't let my self have it, right now. After the 3.7 is done.....maybe.

I picked up one of those for a friend at work. Compression was 190 and they threw in a full chisel chain which the saws come with but are not used on rental units.

You might buy one of there's a Dolmar dealer around or if HD will service the saw. I think around here they will.

I bought one last year, from the Depot rental dept, for around the same price.I got them to throw in 2 chains and a hard hat.Saw runs awesome, only issue is it has been branded,HD rental, by melting into the handle.

I got one from HD last year. Runs great. I got it for 259. I'm eventually going to muffler mod and put the 79cc top end on it. It's a little heavy for its current size but a good deal in my opinion.

I say go for it if the saw checks out.

Don't worry about the smoke....that's a good thing and shows plenty of oil on starting and all mine smoke when their first started. If in good condition physically and if your able to pull the plug and look at the exhaust side with a flashlight and its good that a good indicator saw is good. You will see any tell tale signs of issues this way with out taking off the muffler. If you can do that.. that would be better. Good price if clean....high if cylinder doesn't check out. Should pop on second pull and start on third....usually...each saw is different but that's the norm for all of mine. Pulling should be somewhat difficult also indicating good compression...but again back to plug removal to look inside.

The latest thing I've found is a bore scope I plug into my phone and can look inside and all around and take pictures.

Not to derail this thread but more info on the phone/bore scope please
RR.

Got mine off eBay for $12. Most are android based but I phone can be found also. You android device needs OS 4.o or greater. Works with tablets and computers also. There are apps to down load instead of the cd that is sent so way around that.

I know this thread is a couple months old. Went to help friend clean up his sister's trees. I brought my saws but she had rented Home Depot Makita. I was impressed! Consider picking up former rental but $345 with tax seems like a lot for the risk??
Thoughts about the used Makita vs new Echo 490 Timberwolf? I don't know about bars and chains for each.

I paid $282 plus tax in October 2014.That included the saw with 2 pro chains and ear muffs/ hardhat combination. The counter sales guy told me it had a one year warranty, but when I got home and read the paperwork, their was NO warranty from HD.
That being said, great saw, cuts fine,no issues at all once I retuned the carb.
