I came across this video the other day. I used to live in this town but never worked with this crew.

I liked how he was running the saw and had the kid driving wedges.
I liked that too. That's a good way for a kid to learn falling.
That was my first job when I started out in the woods...being a human pack mule and driving wedges.
And, as usual, the Forester tries to direct the fallers...and it just doesn't work out. Again. Darn.As usual, a thread starts out about the inglorious, but necessary, chore of yarding and the fallers take over. Sigh...

Most any kid that is working is skinny at that age. I couldn't get to the "recommended" weight for my height range until I was 25. 15 years later, I had the same issue, from the other side, though. I suspect being a good thwacker is more desire than meatiness.In the FALLING video, that kid looked too skinny to be driving in wedges, but appearances are deceiving. He thwacked them good.

When I first started working he called me "lightning"...'cause I never hit twice in the same place. I got better eventually but it took a while.
