Just had a nice Oktoberfish beer, jug of red is open, meatloaf in the oven, generator full, saws ready, spare bed and air mattress ready for friends and family who are not prepared, and the 357 just for the hell of it.

I do love a good storm.

Glad it was an easy fix! You are gonna be running saws, about guaranteed looking at the weather reports!

P.S. Don't forget to keep your generator outside and lower than your basement windows, or at least 10 feet away, to prevent carbon monoxide entrance. And get a good chain and lock for a portable one - they get very popular in these types of events!

Friday we did the groceries. We could go a couple weeks if we have to. Got close to 3 weeks of baby formula and a couple weeks of dog food.

Saturday put in all the yard crap. Flower pots and that kinda stuff.

Today I got gas to run the generator for several days.... longer if we only run it off and on. Just a Honda EU2000i, but it will run our fridge and some lights. Got it hooked up to an external tank so we can run for days between fill-ups. Ran it today for over an hour with a load to make sure it was all set. Cleaned and sharpened four saws, got a fresh can of mix made up. Think we are as set as we are going to be.... so bring it on ##### !

Ready for storm

Make sure you have supplies for at least 72 hrs. Water is always important, food, medications, etc. Having someone you and other family members can check in with out of state or where the disaster is not going to hit is good too, provides line of commuinication. First aid kit. I could go on and on I guess. Stay safe out there...

I'm reading through old posts just to keep my mind off the impending doom. Now the emergency mgmt department is saying NJ will have not seen a storm this bad in the history of the nation. Not good. More than slightly stressed out. Saying the coast will see an 11' storm surge. Predicted to backfill as much as 30 miles inland. If that's the case, we'll look like Katrina. I'm fully planning on not having power for at least a week, but I don't have a generator. Hopefully one of my neighbors do.......

Heres a few pics from Irene my friend took down in Wayne NJ, the Madza dealership he was working on clearing lost everything, their back lot was 13 feet underwater. 100s of cars completely totaled. My girlfriend's dad works at Home depot, they sold 19 pallets of play sand before noon today, each pallet with over 20 bags. They also have a huge waiting list on generators, they have tractor trailers coming in daily completely full that are already called for. My girlfriend's brother works at a honda dealership, they've been busy building generators, they build 300 units over the past 2 days and all are sold already. receiving another truckload tomorrow, with 200+ generators. South Jersey is currently flooding quite a bit, and the storm hasnt even hit. expecting 12-15 foot storm serges for long island and raretan bay. This is going to be a BAD storm, dont underestimate it. Now for some pics

Irene's flooding:

Any way you can get me on the 'priority list' at that dealer if I need a gennie?

I'll see what i can do, i cant promise anything though.

Thanks bud. I've been told that every dealer around here has a waiting list with hundreds of names on it.

I didn't buy a gennie sooner b/c I can't really afford one. But the way this is shaping up, it looks like I'll just have to max out the rest of my credit card and bite the bullet........ I'm really gonna need electricity to bail my basement out when I start taking on water. This house has never had water before - I don't even have a sump pump - but this is a new level of watery hell blowing in. I may need to shop-vac water out.

Heres a picture of some of the generators delivered on saturday.

Holy crap! I just realized that's Hanover Honda! I knew that parking lot looked familiar. They're right down the road! I was at that Home Depot across the lot on Friday picking up some supplies. Oh man, hopefully you got a hookup......

Haha yep, thats hanover powersports. Theyre getting a bunch more in tomorrow, i'll shoot him a text in the morning and see what he has to say, i'll definitely try to hook you up though. Gotta do what you gotta do, if you didnt get any water during irene you might not get during this storm, but hard to tell. I always get water in my basement, its unfinished and just pick everything up off the floor, we'll be good, if it gets too high just open the back door and let it drain lol.

haha yeah man. I do have a back door that would be perfect for runoff.

Awesome though. Much thanks. Shoot me a text when you hear from him. I'll PM you my phone number.

Now to try and get some sleep.

If you can't get a generator, you might get a raw water (trash) pump instead. Wouldn't run your lights or frig/freezer, but would do a better job of pumping water from your basement.

It's starting to get ugly here. They started closing the grocery stores down. Looks like we are going to be stuck in our houses for the next the 24 to 36 hours. I prepped for this one like I was going camping. Beer on ice, plenty of propane and smoked kielbasa... mmmm I love keilbasa.

Heres a picture my uncle just sent me, he lives on the Delaware Bay in Cape May NJ. Im pretty sure he's going to lose his house. A couple hours until the hurricane's full force hits him and high tide.
